This is done as my Art ISU for school this year.

The theme I has chosen was: "LOVE". The medium I chose was WATERCOLOUR. This is my first ISU, inspired by the online story, "What I did for Love" by val.

Done about a year ago.. I think my art skills improved since then...

Here's the technical write-out I did for this painting:

Art ISU #1

- Waiting -

My first art ISU of the year is inspired by one of my all time favourite love stories, "What I did for Love", by val. It's not a published book, but simply an online story, but it has touched my heart, and after 4 years, it still remains fresh in my memory.

The story revolves around a poor, average girl named Nam Mina, who has a heart disease, and a rich, rebellious boy, named Eun Ji-Won. They meet under unusual circumstances, but quickly become friends, and fell in love.

The scene I have portrayed in my ISU is the scene where Mina, in her wedding dress, waits for the arrival of Eun Ji-Won. What she does not know was that Ji-Won had inherited a huge fortune from his grandfather as as a wedding gift, and he wanted to move to another country with Mina. He had meant to just take her away at night, but his plan went horribly wrong, and he ended up escaping to Korean by himself, swearing that at first opportune moment, he would come back for her.

Mina, who misunderstood Ji-Won to have escaped because he didn't want to marry her, was heart broken. She didn't want to stay at a place where it would remind her of the memories, so she faked her death (since she did have a heart problem, it was easily accomplished), and escaped.

Eventually she does find Ji-Won in Korea, but by then, he was part of a gang, and seemed to be surrounded by girls. Mina stayed close to Ji-Won by dressing as a guy, and became a person who worked under Ji-Won.

Years go by, and Mina's heart problem got to its worst. During her last moments, she wore her wedding dress, as she sat by the ocean, dreaming of the wedding she never hadâ??of her and the love of her life, Eun Ji-Won.

The reason I chose this particular scene is because of the foreshadowing in the end. This moment is clearly very special to Mina, and ironically, it can be both depicted as a very happy image (the first time it occurred, when she believed to be wedded), or a very tragic image (her last moments of life, simply dreaming something she will never have).

The girl in the picture is of course, Mina, waiting for the moment she's dreamed of all her life. The flower border and curtain represents this to be a happy moment for her, at the same time suggesting that this scene could possibly only be an imagination of hers. Stonewall and the single window suggests hopelessness. The gray-colour portrays a feeling of sadness, and the fact that she's staying by the single window, the window that shows nothing outside, foreshadows the future, which is just an eternity of waiting.

Painted on grained watercolor paper.

Scanned in as 2 pieces then put together in photoshop.

Hope you like it. I put a lot of work into it... about 3 solid days.
