Meh. A textured wallpaper.
This wallie is probably the most tiresome and hardest one that I've drawn so far, since it features a scenic background with lot of elements that need to be drawn (excluding the scan of course). Anyway, this will be my last scenic for a little while, I have got exams coming up at university and when I'll be done with them I might use a different style for the next wallpaper just because I don't want to get bored, eh.

As you can see it's a perspective bg, I actually drew the pathway according to the same perspective that is also used in the original scan. The hardest and most-time consuming part of the background was the grass, since it covers a very huge part of the wallpaper and it had to be drawn following perspective as well, I had to draw and retouch it so many times that I've lost the count, lol. After all that I then applied a texture all over the wallie to make it look like a painted drawing of some kind (the texture used can be found at resurgere.deviantart.com)

Lastly, some info for the nerds who roam around MT:
Layers: 261 (yes you read it correctly, 261 [with the rocks added] damn layers... I think I've went on a frenzy when I drew this, lol)
Hours spent: a lot (actually 3 days of activity)
Size of the psd: 361,7M (like... omg.)

Last but not least, I want to sincerly thank Einna, Sammo, Angelette, MadWiz and all the people on the irc channel who followed my work in progress and tortured me to death to draw as much corrcect as possible the bg (lol xD).
[Edit] I've edited the title, following OracleAngel's suggestion.
[Edit2]following everybody's input, I've adjusted ed's vertical perspective, I've managed to draw some stones and little rocks all over the road and to make it look dirtier (added puddles as well) and I've adjusted the tree size to a more realistic dimension, still according to the perspective. Thank you everyboy for your precious comments.

hey shinn! very nice wall ^^ the grass is truly a great work, very realistic. the ground is properly textured. the sky seems a bit dotted but itsa textured wall XD so its good =D good idea with the concept of the whole scene.
    awesome piece of work!

  2. OracleAngel Retired Moderator Apr 12, 2005

Ok i like the atmosphere in this wall, the trees and house go together as a sutle look to the bg but theres one problem...the finely cut grass seems off for somereason...if there was rocks and more over growned grass and a unperfect dirt road then the whole wall will look stunning but thats just me view... also could put the title Fullmetal Alchemist on the "One last look" text to make it fit the theme.

Nice work as usual mate! XD

  3. sukie Apr 12, 2005

Normally, I'd say Take care...but I'm not done talking about how awesome this wallie is!!! Just everything...so perfect...and 200+ layers!!! Geez, you make it look so easy! The Edo scan was the perfect scan for the bg too!! Gosh...so good...SO fantastic!! Ok, I'm gunna stop spazzin now before I hurt someone ^_^' . Take care buddy!

  6. Nakayori Apr 12, 2005

Ooooh.. love the scenary. ^^;; You did a really nice job with the wallpaper. Then again... you did spend a lot of time on it, so of course it's going to be awesome... :3~ Seems like all your hard work paid off! xD

  7. Athrun Apr 12, 2005

Oooh, so finally decided to submit it. Man, you draw grasses better than me. XP that's a lot of work, btw... so many layers... XD;; Love to make something like this one day... anyway... great job.

  8. ShueiTenshi Apr 12, 2005

Yeah now that i look at it again the title seems fitting ^.^
i like the way the grass is done and the depth of the perspective :D
    Nicu worku ^__^ b

  9. Asahi Apr 12, 2005

hi shinn, very perfect work with your selfmade background. i am impressed of it but i have one criticm: the 2 trees in the back have to much leaves - to high in the sky for this way of distance ;) .

  10. motoko Apr 12, 2005

Agree with Asahi... but the bg is really well done in its whole...
Btw, You'll think I'm too sarcastic... but I prefer the orginal scan scene ;) The burned house is more "cool looking" than the fresh green field :D Sorry... I like destruction =)
And more important : Where is Al ?!?! :D Sorry... I'm really messy :p

LoooooL, excellent!! so true!!! But you're right with this amount of layers, you have to give it to us ;)
Well, even if I'm really a bad critiser, +fav, because this wall is just like your work : Gorgeous!!!
great work ;) keep it up man!

  11. ocelotisun Apr 13, 2005

Hey ShiNN84... :) ... Great work as usual... :D ... I don't think there's anything that I could add that no one said yet... I love the texture look you gave it... :) ... It makes it more realistic than if everything looked "clean"... But then... I like the textured look... lol ... ^_^' ... Anyway... I think it's a wonderful job... You really should be proud... :) ... Take care and god luck on the exams... :) ... Cya... :waves:

shinnn~!!! :) long time no see?

this textured wall is really interesting. everything looks so...realistic. well duh, because it's textured. (hahaha) the background looks well textured. but i'm not so sure about ed. ^_^' he looks a bit funny textured. but that's just me :x

he reminds me of felt people ^_^'

  13. Rebel-Soul-Kaze Apr 13, 2005

Shinn! *bows* Again an amazing work,my favorite wall made by you i must say.

The texture gives an amazing look to the whole background, just im agree with Asahi, the 2 trees in the back seems a little odd for me.

    Funny stuff:
I was thinking on making a wall with that same scan xD,still i wanna do it,but i have to work harder on it,and maybe i will try to do all the background by myself.

Good luck on the exams, real life can be a b!tch sometimes xD,try with the grunge,is grungelicious!

  14. anji Apr 13, 2005

There is a lot of work in this wall ShiNN.
Very nicely done. I think the grass look pretty real.
    The perspective is well done.
I like the texture you used overall.
The only thing that bug me is that the road look a little bit too clean. No rock or leaf at all.
Oh well anyway it's good work.
    Keep it up! :)

  15. ded113 Apr 13, 2005

Wow this is a very nice scenery wall but I think the trees look too round and the road is too clean. However, The prepective it well done. Overall this is a good wall you did.

  16. RaXiv Apr 13, 2005

Ill kick "the shit" out of You if Youll say another bad word about your works. // raxiv

  17. shinta Apr 13, 2005

Wow shinn, really good work! The elements you added in the wallpaper are fantastic! I know you followed the pespective with the original picture but I still have a little issue. The image of Ed walking is at a slight angle but the horizon you drew is flat 0 degrees horizontal, which is why, to me, it looks like Ed is walking tilted to the left. Maybe if you adjusted your horizon to be perpendicular to Ed or maybe tilt Ed to be perpendicular to the horizon (I checked the original pic and I think the mound of grass on the right side is higher than the left one, which makes it perpendicular to Ed.) it would look better? o.o

  18. Makhan Apr 13, 2005

Hmm... I dunno, Shinn... I can tell you worked hard to make this, but, I'm just not so big on the background, it doesn't really match with the character's art style. ^^' Don't get me wrong, you did a really great job on the background, and it can stand on it's own merits... but the artstyles of the background and of Ed just don't match, to me... But, meh, I'm being nitpicky. Good work!

  19. Ying Apr 13, 2005

I like the "I'm going away on a long journy to never return" mood in this wallie :D
As alway your wallpaapers are superb! ;)

  20. ded113 Apr 13, 2005

Yep the new changes are better. And adding the puddle is a nice touch and fixed Ed a bit is cool. Overall it's all good. This is worth a fave!! XD Wish I could do grass like that!

  21. Angelette Apr 14, 2005

LoL @ tree comments. xD You added stu!! It's still amazing~ Me <3s!

  22. Alex204 Apr 14, 2005

WOW! and to think you posted this in the noob group?! it is amazing! *completly humbled*. Hope you don't mind if i add you to my friends list but i don't want to mis anything else like this! +fav!
p.s. also, thanks for you comments on my work-in-progress! (thought i daubt it could ever be up to this level).

  24. einna Apr 15, 2005

Quote by asianspirithe looks a bit funny textured.
