Kim Ki Duk on 3-Iron:
"We are all empty houses
Waiting for someone
To open the lock and set us free.

One day, my wish comes true.
A man arives like a ghost
And takes me away from my confinement.
And I follow, wihtout doubts, without reserve,
Until I find my new destiny."

ill start off by saying, 3-iron is one of the best movies i have seen in a very long time and one of Kim Ki Duk's best imo. This is saying alot sense almost all his movies are sheer masterpieces of film. anyways, im too lazy to write about the movie so,

nixflix.com REVIEW:
3-Iron" is the latest offering from Ki-duk Kim, the acclaimed Korean director who has been responsible for a number of nihilistic masterpieces, including "Samaria" and "Bad Guy". "3-Iron" has been gathering strong reviews and a number of accolades, including several prizes and a special director's award at the 2004 Venice Film Festival. However, this critical success is unlikely to translate into widespread popularity, as "3-Iron" is very much in line with the director's previous films, being a complex exploration of human relationships and communication, as well as the violence so often inherent in these aspects of our existence.

now onto the actual wall, I obviously made this cause im pretty much obsessed with this movie right now. I wanted to use the picture on the inner cover of my DVD yet I couldnt find a decent scan of it anywhere. So getting this picture was sort of an arduous task. I knew one place where I could get it and that was the menu of the actual DVD though there existed a major problem. I coulnt just simply load the DVD up and take a cap. Im not sure how many know about DVD regions, but essentially how it works is that if you live in the US for example, all DVDs and players produced there are Region 1 while Korea is Region 3. Region 1 discs can only be played on Region 1 players, and the players can only play their corresponding discs. Now, I already had a Region free player i bought a while ago to watch all these region encoded discs i buy, but to get screen caps, I needed to be able to play it off my comp. My DVD drive is Region 1 obviously so I had no idea what to do about this. Then luckily someone from another forum told me about AnyDVD which can take off the Region encoding barrier, so this for the most part fixed the problem. Now all that remained was to rake the caps, i had to take about three and stitch them togehter cause the picture is way too big for a normal aspect ratio so the menu image pans up showing the whole image over a period of time. after i stitched them togehter, i went about getting rid of all the text and other objects from the menu. the caps were about 720x405 so the image was fairly small and bad quality. Just how the image was at this point was unwallable imo so i came up with a crazy process that turned out well imo. First off, I vectored the image and stuck to a small scale of colors. then with this vector i overlayed it over the original image. i gaussian blured the original image heavily so that it was just spots of color with the vector overlayed on top. i cut that out and put on top of a simple gradient bg and then finally put a texture on top of it all.
Lastly i put some text on the wall to finish it up, the quote on the right there is in the movie's and my native language, korean. In english it reads:

"It's hard to tell that the world we live in is either a reality or a dream."

The quote is taken directly from the movie and if your wondering what "Bin Jip" the title is, it means "Empty House" in Korean. haha lastly, if you do have a region free player, i highly recommend buying this one. Don't even bother trying it out first, just make a blind buy on this one sense im sure you won't be disappointed.

...Why isn't anybody reviewing this? *pout* Anyways, it's simply lovely. Memo to self: look up this movie. ^^ The process you went through to obtain the scan sounds like a pain, but the results are lovely and somewhat surreal. I really love the effect. Wonderful job! ^_^
