Acrylic on plywood. 31 in X 24 in. 2005. NFS.

I started this painting on new year's eve, and finished it a couple of days later. The inspiration came from the three anime series which I have most recently seen: RahXephon, Haibane Renmei, and Escaflowne (the series).

All three of those series were wonderful. For days I could not stop thinking about the images that those series evoked in my mind. And the one common thread which bound them together were wings. Hence the title "Uyoku," which is Japanese for "wings" and "assitance." I thought that was a fitting title for the emotions which I tried to pour into the piece.

I was also filled with sorrow when I painted this. I was sad that the anime series which I watched had come to an end. I missed the worlds that they created for me to reside in, if for only a brief moment. And I missed the characters which I had come to know and love. Watching them again would not be the same anymore. There is something about the first time that you simply cannot reproduce. And so, I painted this as a memento, and a goodbye, to those worlds and characters.

P.S.: The image has been updated with a higher quality version. It's larger resolution now, with more detail, and more accurate colors.

A very good work - brings to mind paintings by modern artists. You could do something about this black brush though and improve the eyes of the female character. Very appealing, anyway.

somehow, this art piece looks similar to my coming work- the mixture of Art-nouveau, gothic, and pop art. and the name uyoku sounds similar to Japanese wood print 'ukiyo-e"

i was wondering in the first glance, "is this Picasso's artwork?" XD the colours and abstraction is pretty much great. yup, it's very worth to be hung in the living room. the feelings can be felt through the lines :)

right now, i'm still having an empty canvas.....the Acrylic is still too expensive to me T_T

That is deep, I personally like what you said.

Wish it can be captured or preserved somehow. Perhaps you did it within this piece…? (but only you know I guess)

To me this piece of work, is rather esoteric, it is quite hard, as an outsider to fully grasp the intended idea within this piece of work. To me this work is very personal to only yourself, it leaves little or no clues of what was intended (or at least to me). And most importantly what it means to the artist himself.

In term of composition it is rather unusual, as here I found myself searching for something to focus on. All was laid bare and equal, I guess that was intended from the 3 you have watched, like you said memento of the threes being all equal, I guess that part makes sense.

As a fan of expressive paintings, I really like the color blend in between the brown and the red, the textures from the wood grains added a nice touch to the whole thing.

Overall an interesting piece as usual
