Whack? I think uou are acting too harsh with yourself. As for the white border it doesn't bother me at all. Only that the charcter looks too exposed in the elelment in the clothing she's in. And lastly over 100 members downloaed your work. Not bad I would say. :)

Aww, its kawaii. I don't think you've used too much white, I think it's really helped with the snowy scene, it's really emphasised the angelic winter snow ^^
The scan is extracted really well, and I like the snow lines you have drawn around her - they really help with the windy movements of the snow! Plus they help to draw more attention to the scan you have used than the background.
I love the dulled colours you have used, they make the snow scene seem much more realistic, than pure white snow everywhere. And the layers you have used have really helped to give more of a landscape effect than just a plain field of snow. Moon is also a nice range of greys, and this helps to complement the scene.
Overall, good use of colour, sweet words and a cool scan. Its combination makes a cool wallpaper, and I don't think there is too much white, still :P
