Code: Realize: Stand By Me: Van & Cardia

miko (Mangaka), Idea Factory, Code: Realize ~Princess of Genesis~ Official Artbook, Code: Realize, Cardia Beckford

3788x5551

DO NOT UPLOAD TO ZEROCHAN OR ANYWHERE ELSE. The translation of the lines is as follows (taken from the Aksys Games adaptation):

Van: "Why don't you understand...?!"

The pain in his voice echoes in the alley.

Van: "What do you want...Why do you keep following me?!"

Van says he's going to his death and can't understand why Cardia continues to follow him there. Simple: She loves him and leaving him alone scares her more than dying.

I won't lie. This scene was so emotive it made me cry. Following Van's route is a dark road and not for the faint of heart. This scene is probably one of the most powerful moments in the game: A man haunted by the sins of his past he committed while unknowing he was being manipulated, thinking he doesn't deserve happiness or to be loved by the woman in front of him. But Van finally admits that Cardia is important to him; he doesn't want her to die and that's why he keeps distancing himself from her.

Yet, Cardia will not give up on him and continues to chase after Van no matter how many time he rejects her. Van really thinks the only way he'll pay for his sins if by dying. Cardia understands this feeling: that's how she was at the beginning of the story- a living doll that was confined in her own loneliness because of her poison and wished to die. And so, she continues to stand by him again and again. It's a lot to explain, but this CG can't just be merely upload without telling the story behind the scene.
