I posted this one three years ago on DeviantArt, but I warmed up a bit more to this work so I guess is worth adjusting to 1600x900 resolution and posting here.
It's basically an enhancement of this shot from the series' opening, with some drawing effects and a sunny feeling.
It was done with both Adobe Illustrator CS5 and Photoshop CS3. I made the Sawa vector in Illustrator and then imported it to Photoshop. Then I made some layer copies and applied some cutout and graphic pen filters using this tutorial as a bit of reference to enhance the background (since the original shot was a bit smaller than the actual wallpaper) and give this a sllight penciled effect. To make it look brighter I adjusted the lightning and blending settings.
I'm a bit hazy on the details since I did this a long time ago, but it's basically this.

Too bad the vector doesn't go well with the drawing-like effect. Compared to the background, it is just way too smooth-looking. The vector itself looks nice, aside from the colour of the eyelashes. The text looks okay here. I also think the character looks awfully bright somehow...maybe some light indication from the background could work to make it more logical to look like that.
