With one more episode left to go, I felt the desire to share this wallpaper with all those that have been, just like me, enjoying this series thoroughly. It’s always sad when a series you like comes to an end.

No vectors for this one. I wanted to try something different, so I extracted this adorable scan (minus the green text) of Kaori and Kōsei. The concept of this wallpaper isn’t what you would call mind-blowing and original, but it is one of those type of concepts that I’ve always liked.

I wanted the characters to look like actual drawings (not vectored drawings) and the art supplies to look as close as real as possible (not cartoony).

I took the pencil and pink eraser from a Madoka wallpaper I did long time ago. I fixed, changed, and re-rendered them again with tons of improvements to fit this particular scene. The sharpie is all brand new. These assets were lighted, textured, modeled, and rendered using Maya (3D software program). Yes, the objects you see here are 3D objects, not picture extractions.

Why 3D for the objects? Because I like working with 3D. Because I thought it was a neat way to do them. I really like this series, so I wanted to try something different with this wallpaper; different from the usual. Also, having the assets as 3D objects made them easier for me to manipulate and arrange within the workspace, if I really needed.

I used textures here and there, as well some color adjustments and corrections to the overall image.

I had 2 versions of this wallpaper: one with wrinkles/creases added to the paper cardboard BG, and another one without them. I didn’t like the one with the wrinkles/creases, so I ended up discarding it.

The kanji at your left means freedom and the one at your right means music.

“Music is freedom” ~Kaori Miyazono

The end result is a simple looking wallpaper that works for both, desktops full of icons and desktops with none at all. It might feel empty for some, but I honestly think that adding more stuff would just make the whole thing clustered.

Sizes available: 2056x1440, 1920x1080
Size shared: 1920x1080
Ratio: 16:9

No progress chart for this one. Here is the image (scan) I used though: Scan here!

Enjoy,

I love the look of this wall, as well as the detailed description! I must commend you on the 3-D objects, particularly the Sharpie. :) A couple little personal quirks of mine though... (probably because I use/see waaaaaay too many pencils and erasers on a daily basis...) but there is something off about the unpainted wooden portion of the pencil. Maybe it's that it's too smooth, but that's the first thing that jumped out of me. Also, I think to tie the supplies more with the image itself, perhaps making them look like they were used (instead of perfectly sharp, pink...) would be an interesting take. Perhaps a few eraser bits on the right side of the wall? Anyway, this is really cute overall, and looks like a series I might want to check out! Thanks for sharing your wall!
