And another WIP finished. I'm down to 1 now. Maybe two, if I'm feeling generous. Also, damn you Touhou for having such pretty artworks made for you! This was sitting in my WIP folder for months now. I would've deleted it by now if I didn't think it would be a waste since I already had everything sketched, outlined and colored so I thought I might as well finish it.

The original scan was extended a bit and the idea was to basically follow the scan but add something of my own to the wall. So, I pictured a fantasy-ish setting for this, inspired by the series of fantasy novels under the same name as my title that introduced me to the whole fantasy genre as a teenager.

Painting the clouds and sky was fun, the water, too but man, that sakura tree gave me a migraine. I ditched the original look from the scan because it just looked blegh and went hunting for some brushes. Never had to work with sakura trees before so I had no idea what I was doing most of the time, lol. I'm still not happy with all those sakura petals and tree but at least it evolved from "I hate you so much please go die in a fire grahhh" to "I hate you a bit less right now but I still hate you nonetheless". Working on those pillars/trees(?) was a painstaking process, too and including all those colors on the girl was a pain, as well but I'm glad it's finally done now. In the end, I added some tweaks and adjustments here and there and that was that.

Feedback is always welcome and thanks for viewing!

Original scan: HERE.
Brushes used (c) AFireSmothered, DanLuVisiArt and ms69 from dA.

No ripping, reposting or cutting out image for any renders, please!

edit

Elisa pointed out the water was a bit odd and disturbing lol so I decided to do something about it. I lowered the opacity of the reflections a bit and managed to find an old photo from a vacation at the sea that I cropped, adjusted and used as a texture on the water. It didn't do a lot of difference but I hope it looks less disturbing now. xD Also added small ripples around those branches and columns. Thanks JD! :)

Awesomeness! Another example of your beautifully soft, serene and delicate walls. How do you even do that? Nice job on extending the scan. I also love the clouds and sakura blossoms and petals. I'm glad you changed the flowers because they look way better in your wall than in the original scan. I'm drooling over the clouds; I wish I could paint clouds as well as you. I'd only edit the water because it has a rather disturbing effect on me. Everything is so smooth and crisp and then BAM! suddenly there's this seemingly terribly blurry area at the bottom. I'd make the reflection in the water more transparent and maybe add some water texture with these little waves reflecting light. You know what I mean, right? Anyways, I'll forever admire your vectoring abilities and praise you for having an eye for small details.

I wanna worship to your cloud-making-skills *-* They look like candy floss and I wanna eat them :3
Also really love your putting highlight effects especially on those wood beams.
Those planets reminds me about "Dream Works" main title XDD
And agree with Elisa about water :)

Keep up making gorgeous things! >:DD

It's very original! I like everything about this wallpaper. The colore are really well chosen, there's a softness and the sakura look cute! Great job!

Love the colors and overall feel to this. <3
Just something about the water and foliage is bothering me. It seems flat compared to the rest. I think the perspective of the reflection is a tad off and should fade as it gets closer towards the viewer.
But other than that I have the sudden urge to eat strawberry shortcake desserts...

So, while I was browsing the gallery for recent things I noticed that you're submitting works. Then, I really looked at the piece.

and I just sat there. Staring.

So first off, it's always a pleasure to comment on your pieces. You do such detailed work, and are never afraid to break into something new. I have to say, this really feels fresh and unique coming from you because I can't recall you ever doing a piece like this before. Of course, this is simply basing on memory and not me just now browsing through your gallery to back this statement up.

The biggest thing is the composition. I love, love this scene you created. Sure, by proxy it's a scene extension but it goes so much deeper than that. It goes far beyond just adding more things to it. First off, let's start off by saying I love how you redid everything. You can tell the new work has a much ligher tone, in terms of the wood, than the original. This works extremely well with the wooden structure she's on. I love the pop that it has to it and the details and textures of the wood are far more noticeable. I also like what you did with the tree too, as it helps out greatly. However, for myself at least, there's a weird contrast from the cherry blossoms to how light the tree is. The more I look at it, the more I like it, but my initial gut reaction was that it seems to contrast with one another. Perhaps adjusting the lightness of the base might help in comparison, or else my eyes!

So, let's talk about additions! I'm a big fan of subtle sky elements. I also really like that whole moon silhouette during broad daylight. It gives a really ephemeral look to a scene, and in a piece like this it was a must for really giving that completed atmosphere. I would argue for the original artist to of included that in the piece, because it helps to complete the piece in terms of the visuals. I also like how you added some stars as well. A very soft, subtle touch like the moons, but it goes so far in helping the atmosphere of the piece. It really has a pleasant look and is very relaxing to gaze at. The clouds, for me, are the real treat. They remind me a lot of what Candy-chan use to do in terms of how fluffy and soft they look! I just want to jump on them! Or eat them. Or both.

Now, for the water! I appreciate the subtle fixes you gave it. Giving ripples helps a problem the original piece had, in my book, and that is that the water doesn't really look like water. Offering things like a muddled reflection and the ripples really helps the viewer know what they're looking at. Given how surreal the piece is too, there's so many things that can pop in your mind as to what she could be on top of that without knowing it's water sort of leaves you confused. Definitely a huge fix!

So, overall what else can be said? I love it! I don't really like using that, but I really can't stop staring at this piece. It's like a calming, soothing song. A warm, pleasant drink or a soft, comfortable bed. It envelopes you and you get a great sense of comfort and relaxation. Probably the best part of this piece is how it makes me feel, and shows how far you've progressed as an artist.
