Oh wow, haven't seen such a good dark wallpaper in ages! You say the scan was difficult to work with but it looks very crisp and clear to me, so kudos to you for the cleanup job c: The typography balances out the sides, especially thanks to color-coordinating the key words with the girl's lips. I also like the white specks placed randomly in the background, it keeps it from looking too empty.
IMO the image of the soldiers on the right shouldn't be there. I get what you were going for, but it throws off the balance when the left side is blank; it also looks like it's of a much lower quality than the image of the girl (and not in a "hazy memory" way, but in a "enlarged image" way). Having both sides be simple would be much better and would also draw more attention to the typography.
Overall I love the (literal) darkness of it, and clear images always draw me in - could also be because this is one of my favorite Benjamin images ^_~ The composition is great and, while I'm not too fond of the right side, it's definitely a wallpaper I enjoy looking at. Good job and hoping to see more in the future ^^
