Since it's my first time submitting here...

Just a short introduction:
I'm having wallpaper jitters...yet again.

I'm actually from AnimePaper.net. I was aware of MT, but I just didn't submit here because...I found AP first and was more used to it there. That's all. Nothing against MT. Anyway, I had just decided to take a break from AP and suddenly, BOOM! AP had closed down. Yeah I didn't see it coming. I'm not very active online...I just don't socialize much, whether offline or online. And I didn't even know that I had an account at MT until I tried to register a few days ago, and I got an error message telling me that "someone had already registered with the same username and email" -.-'''

I wasn't great at AP. Neither was I outright bad. Maybe somewhere between "bad" and "average". But I always forced myself to submit to AP to get myself to look at the great wallpapers at AP (and now at MT), so that I may be acutely aware of my lack of aptitude. So I'm here. And I'm feeling the jitters, just like any other wallpaper that I submitted to AP.

As I mentioned, I don't socialize much. It also means that I don't really reply to comments. I read, I take note, but I don't reply because I don't know what to say. If I should reply, know that it was done with 10 minutes of fretting over the "post comment" button, editing the text repeatedly and wondering if it is appropriate.

About this wallpaper:
If anyone should remember me from AP, it's that weirdo who posts long, long journal entries on wallpapers. And I'm at it again. The full description is in my DA journal. The reference image and the final result is here.

To summarise that 6 page long entry in my journal (I typed it in Microsoft Word first, so I know), this is my second fully-painted wallpaper, after The Dreamers. A lot of stuff happened after I found out that I could do a wallpaper without touching the vector tool. Old methods got messed up, I lost interest in some WIPs, I changed the plans for other WIPs...and this wallpaper was supposed to be painting practice for a future Shadow of the Colossus wallpaper...which may never materialize after all, as I'm in quite a quandary now.

There are others who have used this same reference image as I, most notably Sioaoi from DA. I was almost tempted to stop walling...almost. I guess I psycho-ed myself into thinking that I would be different (and hopefully better). I used a hair brush from JonasDeRo's brush pack to create the strand-y texture. I did the eagle by observing stock photography of real eagles. The wing still looks twisted, but...well, I just left it.

A big improvement for me would be in painting the sky. Previously, I would have whacked a cloud brush. Now, I used the default soft round brush with pen pressure, as well as help from a cloud tutorial by kayoru. I certainly feel that it looks much better now!

The structure at the back looks weird, but that's because I was lazy in doing it =P Also, the feathers were painted from my memories of chasing pigeons in my house when I was really young. Yes, cruel, evil me. The animal activists would have my scalp for that. Thankfully I am now much wiser and a staunch animal lover. Anyway, the terrified pigeons would lose lots of feathers, and I remember it vividly.

Finally, I couldn't resist and added in stars, with help from LadyVictoire's star field brushes. But not too much! I didn't want a dreamy atmosphere.

Wallpaper statistics:
Aion: 140
Eagle: 58
Project total: 261

Ok that's all...erm...anything else, you'll have to read the journal entry...

(Btw, I just converted my .png to a .jpeg using Paint. If there are quality issues, let me know and I'll re-upload)

Fantastic overall quality and shading, especially on the eagle's wings! Everything looks very soft but not to the point that it's trying to cover up for mistakes/quick cleaning. And the clouds look so realistic that I thought you used a stock image, before reading the full description.

I did spot a small mistake though, in the background: the, uh, umbrella thing cuts off before reaching the ledge on the right. Aside from that, I put it on my desktop without any other complaints :)

And regarding sioAoi's version of that image, I'd say both yours and theirs are good but quite different in mood, coloring, technique etc., so both stand on their own, really :)

    Spoiler (show)

But if I had to choose which is better, I'd pick yours; chalk it up to personal preference, but I like yours more. And pigeons are cute until they crap all over you stuff and, quite possibly, yourself as well. I wouldn't scalp you for chasing them around XD

I for one wouldn't say you lack aptitude at all, but I do know how it's like to take a break and submit to a site you're not familiar with, so your jitters are understandable ^^ Hope you like your stay here, I was surprised when AP closed down too.

Aww, no glasses? I like men with glasses. ;_; Lol, kidding, he looks just awesomely fine without them. And oh, I remember you from AP, glad to see you submitting here, too~

As for the wall, all I can say is that you did a great job! Pande has already pretty much said all I wanted to say but I'll still also compliment you on the clouds (I thought you used some super-duper brushes or a stock photo, too) and those feathers on the eagle's torso are just whoa. Like Pande said, everything looks so soft but just in the right way, without looking too blurry or messy. I'm especially thrilled with that blue atmospheric lighting from the clouds on the bottom of his cloak. :3

Great job and keep up the good work! :)

I clearly remember you from AP. Glad to see that you're also here.

For your wall as what others have said, everything looks so soft but in a very good way. The way how you've done the shading on character as well as those clouds in the background are really superb. I also like how you've written your description, quite long but all the important things to be explained are all included.

Very good job. Hope to see more walls from you. Totally added this one to my +FAVs.

Nice and crisp, love it. Think all that needs to be said has already been told so uhh...+ fave =P

Hope I see more stuff from you soon. I really look forward to another generation of great wallers ^^

Yes, AP went down, but seems like your work quality went up, and that a lot, tough in my opinion you always where a good waller even in my standards. A bit of self-acknowledging please, I know loads of who think they are awesome and have 10% of your skills. Period.
Anways, usually I dislike walls with males (unless is not a trap) but the ammount of quality work on this one speaks for himself. Thumbs up and of course I faved.

Glad to see some quality wallers coming over from AP!
And this is quality! I love the feathers on the eagle and the overall softness of the wallpaper is just fantastic. Great job and welcome to MT :D

Firstly, I immediately notice the quality thumbnail in the gallery. Secondly, the description got me engaged after reading about a couple of seconds. From my memory, there are not much who provided background and overview of the process of their work here in MT or expressed their thoughts easily and creatively as this...or prolly I just didn't look into each wall, since that's so true.

Hope to see you more of your works. ^_^

I'm in LOVE! I normally would never view a wallpaper with characters I have not familiarized myself with, but this just caught my attention and I had no other option but to full view the wall. Besides, I did not regret that decision.

LOVE THE CLOUDS! Although most of the time I find white all around blinding, this I find AMAZING and the dark colour underneath his clothes is just bonus for me. I have nothing else to say, but keep it up and hope to see more work from you :D

I don't make wallpaper myself, so I can't really comment on the use of technique, but I will say that this looks REALLY nice! i'm always on the hunt for more Chrono Crusade wallpaper because it's something of an obsession of mine so I was so happy when I noticed this in the gallery. Beautiful work!
