Hii!
Well, a lot of time without sharing any wall (damned Univrsity T__T), but, I'm here again! xp
I decided to make this new wall after falling in love with this scan, and I'd like to thank SweetMitsuki for, firstly, uploading the scan, and then, for permitting me to use it, thank you so much! ;)

About the wall:

I used Adobe Photoshop CS4. Firstly, I made the Tomoe's vector. It's exactly my second vector so I know it'll have a lot of mistakes and things that I need to improve, so, if you have any advice/critic/opinion, feel free to comment it because I'll be glad to read it and I'll try to take into account in my next work ;)
Besides, I designed different kimonos because I couldn't choose one for Tomoe, I liked how all of them suited him x3, I hope you too (a little, at least :'D)
Then, I continued to design a background.....I tried with an abstract one but I didn't like it a lot, and it was when I thought to make any tatami mats, and well, this is the final result.
Finally, I thought about different versions: on the one hand, I wanted to do a dark version and use different type of gradient masks and filters to get a dark atmosphere, and then, I used the butterflies to get some lighting points. On the other hand, I wanted to create a lighted version, so I used another type of gradient masks and brightness effects.

And now, I think this is all I wanted to say to introduce my new wall after so much time. I really hope you like my work and enjoy it a little as well as I enjoyed making it.

Thanks for reading!

P.D In addition, I made this wall in different size: 2560x2048 (three first versions and the original) and 2560x1600 (the other versions)

first of all, kudos to you because this is such a nice scan. I love the color in your first and second one.
next about the vector. the lines are somewhat jagged and some of your colors are a bit messy, as in they're outside the outline you've made. also I think the shade is too blurred, which meshed too much there.
also for the smoke, I think it'll be better if you make it more "smoke gas like" since it looks pretty solid there. or maybe you can put some pattern there though I'm not really sure.
otherwise, good job transforming the color from the white looking one in the original scan. keep it up!

oh pretty! a bishie is always pretty!I must agree with Kurorisa about the lines, they look jagged in some areas, I do lineart in Illustrator to get more smooth lines. The smoke would need a bit more of transparency I guess, or maybe some more lines with a more darker color. I like the glowy butterflies and I guess this version is the best of all cuz of the warm colors. Overall is a very nice wall!

aww what a cute little fox. I like the detail to the smoke and the cuteness of it all, also like the depth to the eyes, nicely done indeed

First off, you definitely have a great overall design; the placement of the character and the balance of the overall wallpaper is very nice.
But there are some technical issues and a couple of artistic suggestions I'd like to mention.

This wallpaper's biggest negative is definitely the jaggedy-ness of the lines. When you have the pen tool up, is the "anti-alias" box checked? The line shapes themselves look great and the time you spent on them is obvious, so the jagged-ness is more than likely due to a lack of anti-alias-ing or a resolution issue.

The other technical issue I see is the occasional "bleed-through"; color escaping outside the lineart. But even practiced vector artists have slips here and there. One trick is to look at every object individually on a contrasting background. E.g. for the hair, turn off the visibility on all the layers except the lineart and the hair coloring, create a layer on the very bottom and fill it with black, then look at the hair.

On a more artistic level, it's obvious you used the same butterfly for each one (on the versions that use the butterflies). Even just making two different vectors goes a long way to creating a visual variety. That a small thing, though-- I loved that you varied the size and direction and you places them nicely.
On the darker versions, the effects made his left arm do unpleasant things color-wise. Also, he should cast a shadow on the tatami mat-- doesn't need to be anything extreme, but a subtle proper shadow can go a long way to completing a wallpaper.

I hope some of that helps. Keep up the great work!
