Hello!

This is another attempt..

The character was vectored from this scan :
Hanaoni#565824

and the background was based (perspective etc) on this one : http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&section=&q=Samurai+house#/d13fu3f

Time: It took me 2 days using photoshop

Layers: lost count due to duplicating. The originals were 137

Hope you like it

This is one of the wallpapers that caught my attention when I logged in today. For one reason, the thumbnail is very eye-catching wherein the character stands out because of its coloring. Upon closer look, I was amazed to see a lineartless artwork. I love the red colored Kimono and its patterns.

However, I think there are a few parts that can be improved, like the eyes of the character as well as adding textures to the black part of his clothes because it looks too smooth compared to the red one that it doesn't look like cloth/cotton anymore. The BG could use a bit more work especially the bluegreen parts on the left. It is kinda distracting that it looks incomplete. I was actually imagining a garden on them or a grayish wall instead if you don't like to do the BG anymore.

All in all it's a nice attempt! Keep it up!

It's a nice scene and you recreated it nicely, however, there are some things worth pointing out:

There are some weird looking elements in the background like those flowers and leaves below the ceiling and those patterns on the door - they look too jagged, blurry and pixelated in places (enlarged?), you might want to be more careful when you pick resources like that, some of them clash too much with the clean and crisp background. If you want to make the patterns bigger, don't enlarge them, it only makes them lose the quality, vector them or paint them over instead. Some of those textures (like on the wood on the right side of the door) are too prominent and aggressive, try to tone them down in opacity or fill next time.

Also, while the vector of the character is pretty good when it comes to his clothes, the way you colored and shaded hair and especially skin makes it look like it doesn't belong to the rest of the character. The skin in particular is too blurry, smudgy and lacks details; right now it just looks quite messy and sloppy. As a rule, if you vector the clothes, it would be best to vector everything else, otherwise things might, again, clash too much.

    Keep it up! :)

Yup, the addition of the cat was good *3*
