This is really beautiful. The usage of colours is so vibrant and the background gives it such an ethereal feel. I especially love the way you've done their eyes. Looks amazing ^^

Hey all, it’s been a while since I last made or uploaded a wallpaper. This time I’ve chosen to vector Gareki and Yogi, two of my favourite characters from one of my favourite manga, Karneval. Last time I tried to upload a wallpaper, one of the moderators deleted it and told me that I needed to work on my vectoring. So I decided to take a 3-month break from vectoring and try and learn as much as I could to improve. And this is the result~! :D
This wallpaper has taken me over two months to finish, and I think you’ll agree that it’s a real improvement from my earlier attempts XD
Gareki & Yogi:
As soon as I saw the scan of the duo, I was determined to vector it. I really love Karneval for the bright, vibrant
colours and I wanted to vector something that really shows that aspect of the series. Drawing the lines was actually not
as painful as I thought it would be (until I got to Yogi’s hair, which always has lines going everywhere). I had
nearly finished the colouring when I decided to add in a bit more weight to some of the lines, and then later on I
couldn’t decide whether to keep the lines black or use a dark brown to soften them (as you can see, I’ve gone with
the black lines). The linework took me a week altogether.
I decided to try something different to what I normally do colouring-wise, and use my tablet plus the knowledge I picked up during my time off (which I think made all the difference). The colouring took the longest of all because I really want this wallpaper to stand out from the other wallpapers I’ve done in the past.
Background & Lantern:
The lantern was a challenge because I’ve never done anything like it. It took a long time for me to finish the
linework, and even longer for me to figure out how I’d colour it and add the light.
The background took forever because I’m such a procrastinator, and I had no idea what kind of background I’d do for it. The scan I was working from just had a plain white background, and my original idea was a scenic background with lanterns. But because of the position and angle that Yogi and Gareki are in, I knew it would look quite awkward so scrapped that idea. I was playing around in Photoshop when I came up with the aqua-dark blue gradient and the texture, and those who read the series will know that butterflies are a reoccurring symbol in Karneval. Finally, the original scan had orbs of light covering the empty spaces over Yogi and Gareki, and I thought it would be odd having them in the foreground but not in the background. There was also text on the background but I deleted it because I didn’t want to overcrowd the wallpaper.
…So all in all, this took me a while. But Karneval is a great series, so the time spent was worth it! ^3^
So till next wallpaper, Bye~!
