It was after he finally defeated the older students at the dojo who had been bullying him and beating him up until then, in an organized match. He got hit/hurt at first and his head was bleeding, but he begged Kondou to let him continue the duel and he won it. Kondou is hugging him because he's happy and extremely impressed (and he wants to love the poor little kid xD). -
