Well after about a month of planning and enacting I finally got it right! Originally the wallpaper was supposed to look totally different (like this) but it was far too crowded and the grass looked... just plain weird. So after some advice (thanks josephine12cute ^^) I decided to go with a cartoon theme.
So I started from scratch and decided to create a different BG that was simpler :) Then I revised it again to add some detailed shadows and put a tiled texture on the trees. I hope the texture doesn't take away from the simplistic/cartoony theme. The texture was a stained glass-type one and I fiddled with it until the lines weren't too thick and the individual tiles weren't too big/small. I added a lighting effect on the character to make them appear to be under the shade with the wun shining from the side. I also added light to the trees. The shadows the trees cast was rather difficult, but I think after a while I got the hang of it, so I hope the look realistic enough but not too realistic (which would sorta defeat the cartoon theme purpose)

The adorable nyanko-sensei character was from dearowl1's wallpaper.
I used three brushes that weren't my own, one for the red robin, one for the smaller tree, and one for the rays
coming out of the sun (I forget who owned them though so it's hard to give credit to individuals @.@ I know I got
the tree from deviantart though, so if you search 'tree brush' I'm sure you'll find it).
Kudos to josephine12cute for helping me work out issues during the process :)

Time: I forget... it was on and off for a couple weeks, an hour here, hour there.
~Note~ in Alt. version I removed the river, changed the tree in BG, added gradient effect to sky, and changed the sun to make it look more cartoony. Hope you like :D

Simply adorable! I like how simple and colorful the wallpaper is (it makes you feel happy no matter what mood you're in). The background is so complementing to the characters and I enjoy how there are not too many effects, the wallpaper is fully filled as it is. Wonderful work, also thank you for the alternate version!
