Well...it went something like this...
After rewatching Law of Ueki, I took a few screenshots of the last 3 or so episodes. In the end, I settled for this
screenshot:
So, I got to working. I started with a light blue background (the sky) and finished the outlines in black. After finishing the outlines, I decided to change the background to a setting sun with Ueki wearing a scarf (my idea was to have it be Ai Mori's scarf). So, the collared shirt was modified into a scarf.
After the modifications to the original line art was made, the background was detailed in (with my sister teaching me how to use SAI). Once the background was done, it came time to detail Ueki. Unfortunately, my sense of lighting is probably...well, nonexistent. So, my sister sat next to me and pointed out areas that were to be shaded and highlighted. Five or so hours later...it was finally done.
Snow was added to give it a more "cold" feeling for the sake of the scarf along with the fog for Ueki's breathing. Trees were scribbled into the background to give it a little more of a scenic feel as well. A little color modification here and there..and viola.
Design Time: 3 days (approximately 25 hours)
Tools: Photoshop 7 and SAI Painter Pro (tablet and touchpad)

BTW, Law of Ueki needs more love. =D It's such an awesome series! And, many many thanks to my sister for having the patience to help me out with my painting and lighting. It was torture.

Good work on the vector, it's crisp and clean, the colors are vibrant, and you did a great job on the breathe! The trees are a bit too sketchy, but I like them anyway. Great work!
