So yes, this was my entry for the AP Clash of the Wallers, round 1, the human condition.
Lol, I was totally crushed by the absolutely amazing xredphoenix. But it's all good, her wall is pure win *__*
Btw, this is like the pimped version, the other one was..uhm..empty.

I think I should explain myself a bit, some of the judges were kinda confused by my wall.
Being human is being frail. Nobody will teach how to live your life, or how to make desicions. And when you make the wrong ones, you're alone, the responsibility is yours and there's really no one to blame.
Aaaaand, I'll stop as I don't want to enforce my vision, hahaha, I like when people can come up with their own conclusions. Let the wall speak!

The Scan
I have to say that this scan wasn't my first option, I was working on a Nabari no Ou scan, but then I realized that I was going nowhere with it so I had to change it.
Despite not having watched Lain, I went directly to that category and picked the scan. I was blown away by it, so simple yet so powerful and started working right away!.
I thought of adding a background for the Clash but I had some issues with my laptop (i.e virus) and while I was vectoring/painting, Photoshop closed and I didn't save. Yes, I was upset. I can say I painted this twice XD. Try painting with a slooooooooooooooow photoshop ;__;
And well, one of the reasons I'm submitting this now is that I had to repair my laptop and thus I was unable to make any progress in my wall during last week.

But I took Gideon's comment in consideration and I decided to add a background this time, and I used this Yoshiyuki Sadamoto scan as a base.
I tried to set this very cold atmosphere, like an empty room.
And to finally, I added a subtle to texture from DA!

There might be a standard resolution for this wall...MIGHT BE.

A huge hug for CyanideBlizzard, he really helped me through the process and he really was more excited than me about this wall <3

My condolences for your laptop not working when you needed it to. >__<
I like how delicate the whole piece looks and I agree - I like when people can come up with conclusions of their own. This piece is different from your others in that its colors are a tad muted in comparison to your other wallpapers, which usually pack a punch in colors. :P Interesting indeed.

I had so many scans ready to wall after they announced the theme. I started using this scan, but because I couldn't vector/paint/draw water I decided to use something else. Lol.
Fran this is Frantastic (hur hur hur!) Simple and neat and works well with the theme.
    Nicely done!

haha i actually liked the no background version better, it gives a more empty feeling.
i think if your edges were a bit cleaner (on the hair + jawline) as well as a whiter face, it would have communicated your theme better. i somehow dislike the way the scissors were drawn ni the original scan --"

What amazes me the most is that you worked so hard to finish this. Despite changing scans, despite incredible set backs that couldn't be helped. In my book, you over came a lot of odds and completely a wallpaper that capture the emotional aspects of Lain to a T. What made it so amazing to me, was that it was so simplistic, yet it had such a degree of emotional impact.

There is something about the artwork of Lain that just really gets me. Yes, I know the series is either a 'you like it or don't' series, one thing that is universal is the artwork is amazing. The imaged of Lain you worked with has always been one of my favorite, but it's just something about what you did with it that increased the emotional aspect of it. It just hits me with an even greater impact than before. I'm glad that you kept the scissors and her cut hair in it too. It would of lost a lot of that impact without keeping all of those elements that were in the scan.

The background, I have to confess, is what really drew me in. The simple wood planks spoke so deeply to me. I believe that a talent artist can really say something without saying much of anything. That's why I was so excited about this wallpaper. While I was a bit sad to see the changes made to it, the changes helped to make this wallpaper even stronger than before. Keeping it in the center of the wallpaper was a fantastic decision as well. I don't think I need to mention about how you chose to go about the background or anything else, since I've already said so much to you before. I love this background < 3.

Simplistic wallpapers can truly be something else if done properly. They can convey emotion much greater than any sort of scenery or massive amount of clutter. Even if you may not be proud of this wallpaper, I absolutely adore it. It's a winner in my book!

That's right, finally some MT love!
