Hi there!
This wallpaper was made for the first round of the MT Knockout contest. The theme that we had to wall was "Welcome To My World." The version I submitted to the contest was not done, so it had some mistakes and looked even plainer than this one. Even if you fullview this one, you won't see much more than what the thumbnail shows, lolsob _/zo
Now... some of you may be thinking: Uh, the theme was "Welcome To My World," wasn't it? Where is the "world?" Why is there only a plain section of a forest in the background? Is that supposed to represent a "world"?
Uhuu, I'm not good enough to make a nice landscape in the time that I had left to submit. I'm no good with backgrounds in the first place.
As expected, I didn't get past the first round.
More about the process:
Drawing the girl actually took up most of my time. After I colored her in, her expression became different from what I wanted DX And then when I was more than halfway done the wall, I thought of a much better way to express the theme, but alas, it was too late.
About the creatures, I had originally wanted to draw strange looking flowers, but I was having a hard time (I can't draw flowers), so I was like, "I'll just make bulby flowers!" and I started doing that, and then I thought, "Hey that bulb needs a face LOL!" I like to ruin scenes like that.
I wanted have more colors (golden yellow and green) in the wallpaper too but couldn't really decide how to add them.
If you actually like this wallpaper, which part do you like best?
The problem areas I'm aware of and would not like to hear more about
(except if you have a simple solution) are:
- the plainness/emptiness, BG and character are unrelated, gradient bars/non-smoothness, overly simple snow, bulb
coloring, her face

anyway, I think what draws me to this wall, and what I like the most, are her eyes, and the depth to them. Her slightly playful smile makes a strong impression as well.
I think the elements of the wall by themselves aren't bad, it's just that they don't really fit together, in terms of style. The trees are abstract, and so is the girl's hair blending into the background, yet the girl's face and shoulder are painted realistically. The flowers (which remind me of Porings XD) are cute, but they're semi-abstract and kind of random... I think maybe it's too abstract for the idea to get to the viewer?
