This is an entry for the my-maiden Gothic Contest.

Why The Title//
"Symmetry" is a play off of the fact that they are identical twins in a symmetrical setting... while the butterflies help break it up butterflies are symmetrical in themselves. "Scarlet" is a play on the game's reference to Crimson Butterflies, and red is the accent color while the rest is black & white.

RESOURCES//
Scans: Scan 1 - Scan 2
Stock: Curtain - Floor - Butterflies

PROCESS//
When you can't find the perfect scan, make one! That's pretty much my motto now, as most of you have probably noticed, what with the way I turn different scans in to Frankenstein creations =D To help support the Retro Movement I didn't vector at all this time around, and the only painting I did was the old-school method of blending and touch-ups. Everything else was extracted and carefully placed, with the painting to make the changes appear seamless.

The Fatal Frame II twins have several alternate costumes (one set being a Gothic Lolita style), and these outfits I place them in look reminiscent of different elements from of their costumes. If you look closely at the scans you can tell what I did to most of it: I put Mio and Mayu's heads on the bodies of the sitting girls, and because their heads weren't as big I had to tweek the fancy border on the chair. Originally I had them without the big bows in their hair, but I thought it would look cute and enhance the Gothic Lolita feel. I changed the color of the necklaces, ties, and skirts while adding a plaid texture to them and a red trim to the sleeves of their blouses. I found sconces on the web and added them to the walls for decoration and again to help with a Vintage Goth feel. And the butterflies are glowing because they look like that in the game. Also, I know the sconces wouldn't really be hung that low, but they looked dumb when i put them at a realistic height.. it throws off the balance. And for anyone who didn't notice, altered Mayu's hand a bit so it didn't look so provocative.

Also, there's significance to Mayu being the only one touching a butterfly, for those who have played the game ;)
Enjoy, and don't link to the static image off of this site without my permission or I beet-chu-widda-stick!
