Hiya minna! 8d

Since it's pretty late over here (4 a.m.), I'm gonna cut down to the busyness.
I don't wall in like ages, and I thought it was time to work on something (though I've been working on OCs)
So, and while going through my scans folder, I found a manga page of TRC and decided to wall it.
I don't vector anymore. I open the scan with SAI, line it with the brush tool and my tablet and color it.
That's what I did with this scan of Sakura-chan.

Then, made the grass BARE HAND, not with standard brushes or anything, same for the tree and then started adding some light. I never made a wall with this type of scene, so it was kind of a challenge, and yet, horribly tiring.
I worked on this from 8:30 p.m. to now (4 a.m.) and I still had to beg Kitten for help.
The funniest part of all this is that I was actually enjoying it. When I saw the out-coming of the grass, I was like: 'Okay, I'll try hiding the mistakes with lightning effects, I think...'
The only thing that hurts me is that I wasn't able to do it on my own.

Anyway, and after disappointing all of you, I'm back and I hope you like it...
Don't worry if you don't, 'coz it's FAIL...

Off the record: I was very excited when I first started working on this, but I just feel like I don't care what people say about it. It made my think why I make walls... is it to please other people, or me? I draw because I like, not because I want other people to like it too. Well, it's obvious that if I don't please other people I won't get any attention. That's why original works are so under-valued on MT. And that's not going to change. For example, Kairi-chan's new wall: .:Reminiscence:. by Kairi-Hearts
.:Reminiscence:. by Kairi-Hearts I bet that this sh*tty wall of mine would get more favs than hers.
Why? Easy. No one besides me and her friends will fav it. It's something me and her I trying to fight with, but it's just impossible, and being optimistic about it, very unlikely. But hey! no worries! There's lots of other and better walls done with just copying an image, without ever using real drawing tools. Go and fav them, 'coz we original workers don't need your sympathy.

With this, I exclude myself from the walling world (non-originals, coz I'll still draw), coz even by making these horrible, stupid and work-free walls just to please others, I won't be pleasing myself. And I prefer drawing what I want, the way I want. I don't care anymore if oranges shouldn't be squared or if trees can't be yellow, coz I want them to be.

Edit: I'm sorry for all the people whose feelings I hurt. I was angry and I just exploded. Sorry if you can't understand that.
But maybe I didn't make myself clear on the comment above: what I mean is that, and only, why do original work is so underrated? Why can't an original work be as rated as a regular wallpaper?
That's what I meant. I'm not asking for you to stop walling or vectoring, nor saying that your work is less valuable than original work. Just saying that original work should be as valuable than walling work.

Wow. 0_0 The light effects, the grass (bare-handed), and the value.....
You've done an amazing job using the brush tool and a tablet. Sakura almost looks real to me. I like it. :)

  2. weissdarkangel Mar 06, 2010

omg this is so beautiful i wish i have your talent!
    great job!

  3. EevaLeena Mar 06, 2010

The light effects, is pretty awesome! I love how you did them. Other than that, I think it's a bit too blurry.. or maybe that's just me ^^

On the side note. I actually understand what you're saying. Believe me, I do. Although I can't really draws myself ^^ But, I wish you luck. And hope that you'll still be coming around and shows your original works! I'll be waiting, Erika-chan! ^^

  4. Lady89 Mar 06, 2010

I love your wall. No, really. There's something so peaceful and so comforting in the lightning, it reminds me of a warm summer day, when you sleep under a huge tree, the wind blowing softly over your face... The drawing itself is gorgeous, and the feelings born when I look at your drawing are really warm. I guess that's what's happening when you do something the way you like and for yourself first. Keep it up, really; someone's drawing is always a pleasure to look for me!

I see what you mean, Originals are really underrated. But I think it's unfair to say other wallers just copy images, most of them put lot of work into what they make, and I for example cant draw, does that mean I have to kill my joy and not make walls anymore?
What I like about the wall is the lightning, I think it's very well done and basically what attracts people to it. The grass is pretty much exceptional seeing how is handmade.
I feel sorry for your eyes, staring so much time at the screen DX
    Welcome back.

As I said before, wonderful job putting this altogether.
I'm fond of the scene and all the elements you put in, she looks so clean
and smooth as if she was vectored. Seems you were able to copy my advice? :3
I think I pretty much said eveything on MSN, so I'll go now XD

And to reply on the second half of your description:
I do see alot of what you mean, and that should encourage everyone
to submit more. Nothing will change if you simply say "It's pointless" If you want
a change you have to start it and others will follow. I draw and go through the hassle of
walling my OCs because I myself adore them and wish to share them. And through doing that on the love I have for them I saw that alot of others also loved them and looked forward to seeing new ones. You and Kairi have fans, it may not be alot but it'll increase the more you submit and show that you do work hard on them and put all your love into them, people will see that and pay attention more. Gotta start small and move up, giving up shouldn't ever be an option. Try looking around you more, there are alot of OCs compared to before. Things are changing and if you, Kairi, myself and a few others continue to do what we do. It'll definitely spread. <3

    very cute job!
    thank you so much!
    i love it n.n

  12. CuteSherry Mar 07, 2010

Very beautiful work, as expected from you! ^^ This is a +fav~
At first, I thought you drew Syaoran's brown cloak, so I had imagined in my mind he was standing right above her and watching over her, but then I realized my romantic and dreamy self was getting carried away and ignoring the obvious lighting effects that was all showing it was a tree aha~

    I too haven't released a wall for a while, though ironically there isn't a single day that goes by without opening PS at least once to do one thing or another, so I give myself the illusion I'm 'working' with PS all the time while I really didn't release a wall for ages ^^;;
    Well, it IS true that original art is underated, unless it's really exceptional, the fans/viewers will always go to their favorites manga/anime, and I shamefully confess I am one of them ;_;

I hope you won't give up on your SxS artworks, I really love them!

  13. MapleRose Retired Moderator Mar 07, 2010

I love the grass, but mostly I love the lighting you did, dramatic lighting ftw!

  14. Fran Retired Moderator Mar 08, 2010

    Woah, concept is awesome!
As Maple already said, lighting is wow!
But I have to agree with eeva, I think it looks too blurry.

And on your later comment, I don't think favorites are that important. If you like what you are doing, then you're ok.
Popular doesn't always mean good quality.

  15. Kaname-Samas-Lover Mar 08, 2010

    that is just so beautiful

  16. nosfere Mar 09, 2010

looks very serene.....i love the picture. thanks for the share

  17. vitaamin Mar 09, 2010

i personally feel like you should have made the whole thing a bit lighter, right now the objects blend too much into the background and parts just seem gray rather than dark.

also the light rays should get wider as they go down, and less transparent. right now they are a bit too blocky, and we can see the edges too clearly. try layering more colors, it will make your light seem more realistic and 3-dimensional rather than just flat layers.

aside from that i like this more toned down color scheme thats more serene than your typical brightly saturated walls

  18. zaira Mar 09, 2010

Wow great job painting the scan. I love the the way you did on the grass great
job on there. + the sunshine her face is really a nice touch. Though i found those
sakura petals kinda floating especially on the grass, and it would be better if you
make the whole wall a little sharper since its kinda blurry. Overall nice concept and
good job on coloring too +fav! ^^,

  19. HoshinoSora12 Mar 10, 2010

O-M-G! amazing wall the effects are amazing and the coloring too
    simply awesome xDDD!

  21. HAY-ner Mar 10, 2010

What a beautiful ! Thanks for sharing.

  22. MizuuHime Mar 11, 2010

That's such a beautiful wallpaper! The shine really nice touch because you did it so real considering of Sakura sleep under the tree.
And about your self opinion about original work.... Well, same with Rizacaga said, I agree that we must walling something just because we love it, not because people love it. And if you a doujin artist, you must work hard to appreciated by other people. Well, my suggestion is you must improve your drawing skills at first, like learn how to make body proportion, face, and so on. That's not easy, but if you want people appreciated your original work, you must do it (and yeah, I do it too, cause I'm an doujinshi artist too). Second, you can improve your drawing skills at background, such as building, etc. Third, when you walling your original work, try to pay attention to the detail as much as you pay attention when you work other anime/manga series of wallpaper. Don't give up and feel that you can't do that right, but you can learn and learn until you feel everything in your wall is beautiful enough to submit in MT. I know that's not an easy part to do, but that's important. And don't forget to pay attention to the background too!

Well, sorry for my crappy English, but I'll very happy that you get my points, at least. ^__^

  23. garnetyuna Mar 11, 2010
