In an attempt to control violence amongst deep space miners... I mean, in an attempt to obtain a few new techniques from various idols on dA I've erected ore masts and resource derricks on (imaginably quite literally), this single picture is effectively and arguably the most colorful single piece of digital work on my gallery. And I kind of love it (no, I DO love it) even though I was expecting it to flop some way through.

This took up a few good days of the times I'm supposed to be working on a software project, but I think it's completely worth it. :U

Since it's in the wee hours of the morning anyway, here's a fanciful description that doesn't tell much about why this is a fan art that's intentionally untagged for that purpose!

In the year 2203 AD, WAR WAS BEGINNING! ALL YOUR BASE ARE...

Well, actually no. In the year 2203, Arken-Armored Solutions invested in a major project outside of the corporation's specialization of military hardware design, outsourcing to the tourism business amongst others. One such effort was the joint organization's foray into Neo http://a.deviantart.net/avatars/p/e/peelsplz.pnghttp://a.deviantart.net/avatars/h/e/hereplz.png, Aqhttp://a.deviantart.net/avatars/p/e/peelsplz.pnghttp://a.deviantart.net/avatars/h/e/hereplz.png where founded would be the Cielo al Tramanto Company, the first non-combat contingency business for Arken purely made of tourism ideals. While the company is fourth rank amongst its three other, better-established rivals, the guild gained its fame with its new but popular undhttp://a.deviantart.net/avatars/p/e/peelsplz.pnghttp://a.deviantart.net/avatars/h/e/hereplz.pngs that easily adopted Neo http://a.deviantart.net/avatars/p/e/peelsplz.pnghttp://a.deviantart.net/avatars/h/e/hereplz.png's calm and somewhat carefree atmosphere.

Worthless Trivia:
*The head of the rowing paddle intentionally looks like Sa~http://a.deviantart.net/avatars/p/e/peelsplz.pnghttp://a.deviantart.net/avatars/h/e/hereplz.png's staff.
*That leg is the most realistic I've ever done but couldn't do it anywhere else. Mostly thanks and no thanks to the resource derricks on that Chilean chihuahua. (lol)
*Ar~http://a.deviantart.net/avatars/p/e/peelsplz.pnghttp://a.deviantart.net/avatars/h/e/hereplz.png-sacchou's counterpart for this original gon~http://a.deviantart.net/avatars/p/e/peelsplz.pnghttp://a.deviantart.net/avatars/h/e/hereplz.png company of mine was supposed to make an appearance. Cut out because couldn't place him anywhere.
*My brother refused new challenges after I Tank-punched him over the rescue vehicle (and died, dipping in the water) in Hard Rain's finale... again. 8d

Extra Other Trivia Not Seen on the dA Version:
*The wings on the uniform was created to distinguish Cielo's undhttp://a.deviantart.net/avatars/p/e/peelsplz.pnghttp://a.deviantart.net/avatars/h/e/hereplz.pngs from Himehttp://a.deviantart.net/avatars/p/e/peelsplz.pnghttp://a.deviantart.net/avatars/h/e/hereplz.png Company's similar red colors.

Nice, much more refined than your usual, but still recognizably your style. I especially like the way the water reflects on the figures and boats as well, a nice detail. :)

Anyway, I always thought there was something clay-like about your renderings. It's interesting, but not sure how much I actually like it.

  2. windyroller Feb 05, 2010

Well, now this is certainly different from you. The scenery is, as usual, gorgeous, the reflections of the water on the boat beautiful, and the colors vibrant and yet muted enough to clearly reflect your style. CCS Sakura's staff head at the top of the oar is an amusing touch.

I'm not fond of some of the wrinkles in the cloth, most especially on those sleeves. I also think there's too much... staticness. Something in this is too still for all the motion I'm seeing. Maybe this depends on the weight of that cloth and the amount of motion there. I'm really not sure. There's also a lack of motion on the sitting girl's hair and clothing... *shrug* I don't know...

Still, this is a well done piece. :D Good job on this!

Wow, definitely agree with Tofu. Very different from your usual style, but still amazing nonetheless! Keep up the great work GTD! XD

Aria! The background is awesome, as is the detail in the girls' clothing and hair. I think you're getting a lot better at drawing faces now ^__^

Haha, a Sa-****'s staff-shaped paddle, I wonder if it grants magic powers...

  5. DarthTofu Feb 10, 2010

Hrm, going along with what Windyroller has said, the wrinkles do look a bit strange... perhaps if they conformed to the forms of the body underneath? Or maybe some slight variation in color so it is less opaque would make it seem lighter, especially with the amount of wrinkles in the cloth. Just another touch to make it more believable.

Wow, I'm late commenting. I love it, the bg is so detailed it breaks my heart, that the painting is just magical. I love the colors and the style and everything about it. Great stuff.

    *Sob* Where's ARIA sancho ^_^ (i'm sure he's there somewhere, flying (?) above !).

Anyway, great work, i love their clothes, it feels like they're liquid in a way, really fluid (thanks to the wrinkles being all over the place and the great lighting work). I'm not such a big fan of angel wings and such, but it definitely goes with the 'kawai' / chibi look of the characters.
Oh, and i just love the clouds / light in the left part of the art, above the skyline, painting-like !

    Thumbs up and fav :D

PS i feel for your bro (poor guy)
