Man, I started this so long ago. Been slacking off like crazzzzzzzzy.

I only really started this is a test of sorts. I wanted to explore and better understand Art Deco styles. And Art Deco freakin' rocks.

Found some random chick playing a guitar on danbooru, and vectored her in that style. Then just vectored an art deco cityscape poster.

NOTE: I UNDERSTAND THAT THE STYLES DON'T MATCH. DEAL WITH IT. 'TWAS INTENTIONAL. Feel free to play the wannabe critic and point it out, claiming I fucked up and should redo it. =D *seriouslygonnaignoreit*

Here is why it was intentional: the background is the visualization of the song she is writing/playing. It's the vision she sees in her head as she plays - which is what I do whenever I play guitar, or write songs in my head.

Or you can take that as a bullshit excuse, but WHATEVER.

And yes, her leg looks weird. Nothing I can do about it. Her sitting on the whispiness was supposed to help make it look less weird.... but it didn't really work. Oh well.

The title has a two part meaning. The first part is obvious. We have a fretless guitar (tell me where to find a more badass guitar. I DARE you.)
And no, I did not get rid of the frets because I was lazy. Have you HEARD a fretless guitar lately? It'll make you swoon.
The second part is hooked to the term "To fret over something", which basically means to needlessly worry over something. And our girl's visualization/song is anything BUT worrying. She's got nothing to worry about, so she'd order things fretless, of course.

Topped it off with a texture, and viola. Finished.

Overall, I'm happy with what I got goin' on here. Sure, it'd be nice if I did her in an art deco style (lol did her), but I really need to just get this out here, so I can move on. So that's what I will do. Move on outta here and end this description.

Enjoy, gang.

I like the colors of this last work, the red in the buildings is really attractive and gives the wallie a nice look. As always the vectorizing is amazing and the effects on the wall are cool. Nice work :)

I absolutely love the colours! And the title is great, I would love to be a little more fretless myself. XD

I notice that this looks almost exactly the same as the WIP you showed me the other day. I seriously do not understand why you chose to keep it virtually unchanged. First off, the dominant piece of this should be the 'art deco' buildings, but it isn't. You have the girl the exact same size, causing much imbalance. if you would have moved her slightly lower, and made the buildings larger in scale, it would have looked more complete. I just don't think the placement works very well.

Second, and I told you this the other day, the style of the girl does not go with the style of the rest of the design. You may have colored her in a similar style, with flat colors and subtle gradients, but it just doesn't work. Getting rid of the lines would have fixed the problem almost completely, but even then, it wouldn't have complimented the 'art deco' buildings as much as if you drew something yourself in the intended style. There's no unity between that girl and the rest of it, which just makes me think that she's pasted onto it, just hanging there.

My final problem with it is the juxtaposition of the text. Actually, everything about the text bugs me. It is just floating there, in between the girl and the buildings, which are both the same size. So once again, the balance is off. Maybe if you placed the text inside the blue building, positioned to make it look part of it, or even riding up the side of that tower. maybe type part of the image would have pulled off something a little more complete, I think. But its just there. Floating. Being uninteresting.

I know you said you don't want 'wannabe critique', but when I show a piece of work to a group of people (minitokyo counts as that), I'd LOVE critique. Critique helps artists realize the areas they need to work on to make their work just a little better. They welcome critique. You shouldn't dismiss crit before even receiving it. Unless you're afraid of getting your feelings hurt because someone disagrees with how you went about it, then you really shouldn't post your work on the internet, where everyone can see it. Also, how will you ever get better at art without criticism?

You mainly need to work on the unity and balance of your work.

so i really feel like theres a lack of focus--the lack of relationships between the girl and the building makes the composition a bit uncohesive.
the sharp lines in the building kind of make your mistakes in perspective really noticeable. i think the colors on the girl arent as vibrant either--even if the blue is the same i think you should have made it more saturated because she isnt gradiented like the building itself. same with the guitar.
but i do like where this piece is going and its an interesting color scheme + <3 texture!

i like the balance and color choice, who said everyone has to look at only the left or right side of a peice of art. the girl with the six string looks awesome. nice vectoring and detailing on all parts of the wall.

Okay, I tried to fav this on Thursday when my computer was attacked by poorly-spelled viruses with bad grammar.

I love it. I love the color combination, it's the essence of Tulsa during the 20s, you should totally come visit and I can show you the tile inlays of those colors on the fronts of buildings down town! The buildings look very cool. I like the stylized shapes and did I mention the colors? <3

I like the way the girl isn't as saturated as the buildings, I think that would have been color overload. I get the impression that she's in the present, she's all smoothe and shiny and the guitar is awesome and stuff, but that he buildings and sky are in her imagination, and are inspiring her music.

I would be cool to see her in Art Deco style...but I think it works just fine the way it is. Nice work, as usual, Dev!

    this one is beautiful.
Wonderful vectoring work, the colors are my fave thing about this.
There some things going on the perspective, unless the focal point is placed somewhere else. :X

    Keep it up!
