Seeing all those amazing CG's on MT, I really wanted to try it out myself
>>install photoshop, read some tutorial and find a picture
So I looked in my old scans and found one of my old fanarts of Agharta ( very good manga by Takaharu Matsumoto ). I realized after hours of work that it was a bit ambitious for my first CG. But even if I spent a lot of time on it (and also in discovering photoshop) I really enjoyed it and I will make more. Also thinking about buying a tablet...
I'm quite proud I finished it, now some critiques would help me for the next one ! XD

Wow, for a first cg, the colours a great. You even added some shiny light reflections to the hair and eyes. :)

On the down side, the pose looks a bit strange to me. I don't know how the character looks like in the manga, but to me it seems like the girl's upper body is quite long and I can't make out where the legs begin.

Not bad for a first try, mine was worse! =D
There are a couple of things I will point out, please don't yell at me, but you'll be brilliant if you focus on these points:

    1. The hair, the chain thingie are perfectly fine, keep going like that!
    2. The dress, it's free flowing cloth, so you want to make the shading quite subtle and flowing also, unless it's something like leather, where sharp highlights and such are suited.
    3. Skin, you're really getting close to what you want, but there are just a *couple* of things. The patch of shading to the left of the right (viewers right) eye is a little too blotchy, as it's shading near the nose, you want to blend it into the skin tone though make it quite sharp near the actual nose. The hands down the bottom there, I know the shading *is* meant to be dark, though you do want to use, say, a couple of dark shading tones and hightlighting tones to really bring out the desired light effect.
    4. Don't be afraid to be adventurous and stick to one or two colours for shading - really use a variety, it'll make your cgs a lot more interesting and you'll produce better effects. Same with highlighting light areas.
    5. Remember what you're cging, if you're cging skin, you want smooth colour, and cloth you want quite a visible change in colour for shading.
    6. Invest in a tablet, I have a Wacom Volito. It'll really make CGing easier, it'll take a little while to get used to the pen, though you can produce better results with one.

I know that makes it seem like I'm complaining at everything, but I really am just pointing out one or two things and doubling up sentences. I hope that lot helps anyway =D *squish*
And if MT crashes on me, I'm so going to scream and go on a killing spree, I'm not re-typing this again =D

Your first cg???!!! =D Wow, that is unbelievable... Overall great job. I think the shading looks a tad off to me ^^;; It's really good except for where it beomes darker...imo looks more like a gray line, not much of a transition. Other than that, it's really great. Hope the "shading" opinion helps. ^_^'
