Takamichi Wallpaper

Artist Comment

Well, I wasn't planning on submitting this anytime soon, but it has come to the point where I can't focus on any other wallpaper without getting this out of the way. I'm just that kind of person, I guess. It's nothing too special, although probably the longest I've spent working on a vector ever. I must have started it over a year ago, because the title of my PSD is "The Sweetest Thing," and that is a Lauryn Hill song, and I was really into her a year ago, meaning this is a year or so old. Get it?

The process is something like this: first I vectored the scan, which is somewhere in the Takamichi section on this site. Thought I'd try being creative or something with that block gradient thing going on in the sky. Traced the city and added a gradient to make it qt. Also traced that power line contraption from a photo over at sxc.hu. Added a layer of purple to unite the colors a tad bit, and here you are with a bromithia wallpaper.

It's weird, because lately I've been really feeling those classic grunge wallpapers, and I had this thought in the back of my head that I'd try something like that with this, buuuut I didn't. It's probably because I spent so long on the vector that I didn't want to taint it with ugly textures. Who knows.

This is like a year late, but I'm a part of Inky Monday now weeth Gideon and the gang. The website isn't booming with activity or anything though, so, we'll see if anything happens in the near future. Have had a few ideas of my own for a new graphics blog or something, but I'm not sure if I'm up for it entirely. Speaking of Gideon, I'd like to thank her, along with metalmallow, Bernouli, and a couple other folks in the creation process of this wallpaper, even though I most likely rejected all of your criticisms and went with my own judgement, haha, sorry.

I will leave you with a song I've had on repeat for the past few days: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nxO-yPQesA

    Takamichi, sweet stuff!
But the vector seems to be a bit jaggy, especially on the girl's hair and on her skin lineart... so it would be nicer if it looked better quality on fullview.

The shading on her shirt is amazing. Really nice. I like the color scheme.

A gooood one! (if i can said so... :P)

Maybe it isn't the usual stuff that i put attention but for some singularities about the concept itself i have to put some kind words; first because the gradient is so original that i can't complain with it, and makes sense with the whole concept, and the vector is nice!

About you said in your comment... I also had the same problem about focusing in my work a long time ago (About 5 months more precisely... And now cured... :P); About the criticism, is good to have it, but as always i said... If you feel good with your own stuff, then you go in the right path of becoming a great artist... :D
