i haven't been using photoshop at all for the past...several years due to various reasons. but i got started on this and it took me very long to complete vectoring the scan because i lack practice and i basically did it bit by bit without rushing.

anyway, as usual i suck at creating an environment to fit the stock that i did so this is the result. not as impressive as i'd like but oh well :x everything's vectored, i coloured the thing myself since it was originally a b&w manga scan, i tried shading for once and it does look more 3D i suppose. and nothing else's worth pointing out. his hair and belt/bottle/buckle thingy area killed my eyes. it doesn't look that clean because...i wanted a rough painting feeling but it's kind of different after completion.

as always, i've kept a .psd copy so i'm open for criticism and advice on how to improve this. >_<

guess what i've been doing instead of studying, wish my luck for my exams. :hmpf:

<sakura-dust> aye, i've done it up as you suggested and it's somewhat better :D thanks to you i've tried another new thing - typography. lost patience halfway though X-P

Whoaa, Akira from Air Gear <3
I love the vector, the style is really cool.
I like the idea of sketchyness, the brushes that go beyond the outlines. However, I think it would look better if you used another type of brush. The brush circles can be clearly seen, so I would suggest something like a splash.
Also the background looks way too empty. To keep it abstract, put some text under him. Text of the same colors as the vector, of different fonts (but not to fancy ones) and use blending options on them. It'd be cool with an Air Gear song, maybe Sky 2 High...
Sorry it's so long, but I really like it and I'd like to see it improved a little =3=

Your lines have really grown a lot crisper and it's a pleasure to see that :) the typography and text placement is well done and the colours and slight textures are all very pleasing to the eye.

I only have a personal nitpick, but that's just me, is that the composition is a bit too literal as in a left/right half. If I drew a line down the middle, it would look like an open book. Not a biggie (personal preference of course) but compositions of thirds is usually much more pleasing. Composition of halfs is usually best when you have something in the middle to create some sort of symmetry (but then that in itself becomes thirds - empty space, image in center, empty space :P) I find it surprising even the thumbnail posted 2 posts above features a wallpaper with composition with thirds.

Nevertheless very nice and technically flawless piece. :D
