... just submitting so I can delete the large chunk of PSD sitting in my HDD.
Pool Party Round #1
-theme: Summer Solstice wth?
-assigned color theme: Indigo

apparently Gid doesn't mind if we put descriptions on off-site submissions(?) so I'm going to post one anyway.

Why the title, etc./ what is this place
This girl is in charge of synchronizing the Earth and the Sun's movements, she makes it so we have 'longest' and 'shortest' days of the year; hence, Summer and Winter Solstices. The reason she's carrying a bunch of paper around is she needs her notes to make sure she doesn't mess up the Solstice, or else half our planet would be on fire from being in the sun too long.
The little flapping.. thing.. beside her is a Sun-globe, which allows direct communication with the sun (like a sun cellphone or sth)... it has flapping Jupiter-globes and Saturn-globes around it, like crazy orbiting batteries

thing on her head
sundial, though not stone of course x]

colors are weird
this is my first attempt at using blue, so expect chaos

critique and advice is very much welcome. I'd actually prefer you to critique than to fav, since this is Original Art and I need to improve.

interested in how this was done?

A very artisstic watercolor design that does not have sharp edges. I like it. Colours are weird, I also cannot point out where the light is actually coming from or is those round objects

  2. Erdbeermilch Jul 14, 2008

I think it looks great. It's rather sketchy but I simply love the colours and scenery.
I know you want criticism but I don't know enough about perspective etc to give you some helpful advise. ^_^'

  3. Tifa-chan Jul 15, 2008

i downloaded your wallpaper in animepaper!
it is really gorgeous how you color it!
i loved your drawing, is very cute! ^^

  4. DarthTofu Jul 15, 2008

    I love it. o_o
    Hrm... Crits...
Well, the perspective on the stairs and that ledge thing look a bit off in the thumb, but not so much in the full size... Is there another sun-globe thing beyond the picture for the light behind her?

I think the sky is too blue. Since all the lighting is indigo, and overall outdoor lighting reflects the sky mostly. Also, the green is completely out of place, since I can't tell where it came from or why it's green, since the rest of the building is yellowish-purple. I think a darker indigo would be better there and a light almost-blue indigo for the sky.

Other than that, it's awesome, and I love you used the leaf brush for the bird things. xD

wow this one is very nice too!

  6. janicehamtaro Jul 15, 2008

    Very nice.
I like the idea of putting a sundial on her head, although I can't actually see it is one. Lol
    Anyways, good job!

wahhhh *is jealous of your painting skillz* >__<

anyway, I love how your painting style, esp the use of multiple colours for the shading on the buildings, it kinda reminds me of Benjamin's style :)

Um, constructive crit... I guess the only thing that looks a bit out of place is the green and blue. I mean, I think it looks fine if you just look at that area, but since pretty much everything on the right side of the picture is violet-ish, it just looks out of place. I wouldn't mind it as much if there was more green on her, or hints of green in the shadows on the right side as well.

But other than that, awesome work ^^

  9. Phill Jul 15, 2008

    as i commented on AP
    great job

  10. Akaiken Jul 15, 2008

Di ka ata busy ngaun? Already two wallies for the week, hehehe! XD

Read some of the comments here and I would agree with DarthTofu about the stairs. That fooled me...

If the time in the wallie is night time, I would really think that the blue part on the upper-left side is fog. Blue is too powerful for the other colors so I guess a darker one would fit the others.

That's what I think... ^_^' no art sense
