2/4 of my Art ISU.

Again, theme is love...

medium is watercolours.

This time inspired by one of my all time favourite manga/couple... Nana and Ren from the Manga NANA. :3

The lineart IS eyeballed from a page in Book 1.

And, here is my official report:

Art ISU #2
- Snow -

Theme: Love
For the second ISU of the year I have chosen to do the painting on a couple in the manga "Nana". Nana (the girl) and Ren are both musicians in a small town aiming to one day become rich and famous. They're both in the band "Blast", where Nana is the singer, and Ren is the bassist. The they met in early spring, during a snowfall, and fell in love. Not soon after, they moved in together.

Slowly as the years progressed on, "Blast" became more, and more popular, until one day, Ren was offered a position in a hugely successful band, "Trapnest" in Tokyo. When he came face to face with deciding whether to stay with the girl he loves most or take this once in a lifetime opportunity, he chose to fulfill his dreams.

The scene I have chosen to portray in my painting is on a day nearly two years since they'd met, and it was yet another snowy, chilly day. The band "Blast" had just finished another perform, and Nana and Ren were making their way home.

In the cold weather at night, all they could manage to find in their belongings was a scarf from a fan, which they shared contently. Despite the their chill, they were happy. Happy to be so close to one another. This scene is also the last time Nana could be with Ren so wholeheartedly, as this is the night when Ren told her the news of him leaving.

When Nana was offered to go to Tokyo with Ren, as he would be making more than enough money to support both of them, Nana also chose her career over the love of her life. She wanted to make a living not by relying on Ren, but by using her own voice. Because of that, the scene I have painted is the last happy and oblivious moments they were together, trudging through the snow together.

The grey-ish faded colours are used to represent the fact they're walking into the "distance", also away from the happiness they'd both shared for two years. It also creates a romantic at the same time sad atmosphere. The scarf is red because I believe it symbolizes their closeness together, which is why it's emphasized against everything else.

I'm quite happy with the way this came out. :3 Especially their jackets and Nana's skirt. This was done about 2 months after the first ISU was due... I think I am improving. ^^

Colours definitely much more friendly to the eyes. >_<

Great watercolour work, I esp love their reflection on the ice. ^^ I also like how even though the setting is wintery, you still get a sense of warmth from it by the characters being together :)
