Ahh~ My God it's been decades since I last submitted something here at MT, heck,
I haven't even submitted a fine doujin yet. Now here's one
this
description is a long one since I'm excited, but don't bother reading if you
don't like
1. Shanna
2. Illuxin
3. Callipxo the 7th
4. Luina
I'm actually trying to alter the art style I'm using by jumping from Shoujo style to Shounen. Yeah, it's really hard to do it since I'm used on drawing long, un-proportioned bodies typically seen in shoujo mangas. Best example would be CLAMP's art, since they are one of my biggest influence "unconsciously".
Hence, I managed to lift myself up to a new level, yay~ Before I wished to be a manga artist and make my own manga, I've always, always wanted to be a game character designer, since I'm a game addict myself. Nevertheless, since I lacked some sort of "talent" by that time, I gave up and focused on developing shoujo style. I love shoujo, but I can't get away from something I really wanted from the start.
One day, I cracked myself up and came up with this kind of art style. Actually,
it was when I joined this Drawing Contest (Mangaholix Mania 2008, Quick Draw)
that gave way for this "new world" to be opened to me. I didn't
won...long story. Honestly, my entry was purposely out of category, by which the
categories are; no smoking, global warming, world peace. C'MON! How am I-
nevermind.
So I drew this guy with some sort of weapon...and blablabla after some 4 hours, there! I just did it! A game character guy with his girl weapon interconnected to him (I'm waiting for them to return at least a scan copy of my entry to me).
A new style that I've always wanted, burst out of me just like that. Plain day
as it is, it just came. Nyoro~n Who else could be happier?
And so when I went home, I immediately drew something even though I was about to
die out of weakness, and there!
This drawing is my first experiment of my newly found "art style". But to be honest, I don't really know what this style is called. Shounen? Medieval? Futuristic? Techno? Yahh whatever. It's just that.
I already drew 4 and still drawing some more 'till I develop this properly.
Tools of trade:
> 2B mechanical pencil
> Blue pencil, sketches
> MyGel Gel Pen 0.3, 0.5 and 0.7
> (Mango Shake)
It's a messy artwork, but I like it as it is since I love sketchy, messy arts.
The preliminary sketch is not available since after I sketched it, I lay the
inking directly. Save the environment by saving papers
Fast fact about the character:
> Check out the bottom part of the ornament in her hair. The character
written is the same character written in Kanda's left chest of D. Gray Man. I
was reading a doujin *cough* when I need to come up with a kanji character, and
Kanda's chest is the first thing I saw. (Perv?
)
> If she really is a game character, I intend her to be a priest or shamanic
type. A magic user maybe.

Yea, I can definately see her as a caster. I love the show design! The sleeves look cool, but the way the shoulder/connection is on the right side it's hard to tell how the arm goes (like the hand is unaligned with it). Overall she looks great and you did a beautiful job shading her outfit. Nice design. You made the style transition very well! ^_^
