First - Sorry abul! I flipped it back around again... >_<

My collab with abul-kun for w?waller round 4.

We started this about halfway through w?w and we both were really busy with other projects, and I had a lot going on IRL as well, so it never really got finished. It's still not, really, but I'm too frustrated with it to keep trying. >.<

Abul chose the scans -

LAIN submitted by Serger

&

ALICE submitted by Minebann

- and we vectored/painted one each. Abul did Alice, I did Lain.

To try and disguise our styles a bit I did another layer over them with the cutout filter applied and then played with the opacities a bit.

We decided to do a semi-abstract kind of bg and started brainstorming ideas and I came up with this little
MOCKUP inspired by the guardrail in the Lain scan.

We liked it and so I set about changing it into the final version. The telephone poles I vectored from a photo I found on google, the same with the crows and most of the grasses and weeds.

I painted the sky and then grunged it up a bit with the poster filter and a grid brush. The painting in the bg of the cityscape I did in art-rage. [Which is SO fun to use ^_^] It's supposed to look a bit like painted plastic cut out and pasted on the pic. The whole thing is supposed to have a collage-y feel to it. ^_^

The BG paper effect I made by cutting out various paper two paper effects from other images and then even-ing them out so they matched on all 4 sides and could be used as a repeating pattern.

Heres the original w?w version -

which is flipped and sans the trees and extra grass.

p.s. About the telephone poles, in case anyone thinks they're too short, there's a steep bank just behind the guard rail. :)

oh the extra trees look....
GREAT! :)

lol of course its a fave XD

i simply love it.
nice composition and the painting is very nicely done ^^
This is almost perfect and very lovely
+fav from me ^^

hmmm.....love the collab. the background's perspective look really good! love the details along side the road and the bg effects. nice work guys. the paint job look good!

Seriously I love the concept of your background and the abstractness. Your and Abuls vectors of the girls look perfect and I think the composition is great as well. I just can't warm up to some of the textures and the scratched look on some parts otherwise I would be in love with this wallie XD.

Lol, I thought the characters were vexelled. >__<

I love the abstract-like scenery, but I prefer the perspective in the mock up one. I like how you've combined different styles in one wallpaper, it's really original. =)

Great work! o__O
Your wallpaper made in collaboration with your friend is amazing!
Aaah~ So many memories, Lain seems so far away, really another generation of anime that I miss sometimes :)
