Kozue Amano Mangaka Aria Series Akari Mizunashi Character

1920x1200 Wallpaper

Artist Comment

This one really is a hard one, since this wallpaper is 100% vector, and I added a lot of details which maybe can't be seen easily.
This was inspired from the manga, AQUA, where Akari stayed at Himeya and saw the beauty of Aqua Alta for the first time.
Along the making of this wallpaper, I had a lot of hard times. And I had exams while doing this wallpaper, and I always got some time to do this wallpaper everyday at least 30 minutes in the exams days, because I am a [strike]naughty boy[/strike] diligent waller ;p.
Curious about the real scan? you can see it here.
About the character, I changed it. Because the one in the wall is really small (I tried vectoring it, but the result was really bad).

The birds were vectored based on this and this snapshots. (They are snapshots from the ending song of ARIA anime)

I got the textures from here.

Additional Info
Program : Photoshop CS2
Time : about one and a half month
.PSD file size : 312 MB
Resolution I worked with : 3000 x 1875 pixel ->I am afraid my Photoshop will crash if I used any bigger resolution than this with that many layers to work with.
Number of layers : about 2200 (the first time I reach this number XD) even my Photoshop get small errors which made me really frustated while making this wall. Opening and saving the PSD file take a minute each

The process
1. The outline of the building
2. Coloring the building, with shadows. the hardest part was the window, because it just took long time to finish.
3. Made the black buildings on the background.
4. added things:
* The sea
* The sky
* The lamp post
* Textures
* The birds
* The clouds

I really want to thanks saku, because she really helped a lot, really, she patiently gave me constructive comments so my wall can become better. And she also told me the site which I got the textures from. Oh, I can go for a page thanking her, so I will just say this: "HOMIGOSH! I love pink!" ;D

well, please at least drop a comment for this wallpaper, because I really put so much effort in this wallpaper. And if you like it, add it as your fav.

thank you very much!
tida

    I really like the simplistic sky especially with the lack of clouds compared to the original scan. Very neat vector work esp. on the building (which I think is the longest part if I were you >_>) and your choice of colours are very striking and beautiful. Definately something good for my desktop.

    Wow. Great job with the scan :D I would've killed myself if I was doing this during exams X_o I really like what you did with the scan; changing the water/reflection and such.

    Amazing job ^^

    loverly wall there tida 8] lol
    u already know what i think of this, but i just have to say, yayy for scenic! <3

  4. Erdbeermilch Jan 04, 2008

    It's a nice wall, you don't see wallpaper with such an emphasis on the scenery often and I think you did a good job on all the little details (like the windows). It must have been really annoying but it was definetley worth the effort.

    seen this in AP and DL it there :D
    i just love the whole scenery! its nice and your focus is the background XD
    nice vector + double love for widescreen ;) +fav!

    Bravo! (applause) You really did a great job doing it in such a long period of time...
    Definitely +fav! :)

    IIRC, this part of the manga occurred in the evening. Can't really tell what time of day it is in this wall. Real attention to detail on this one, since you managed to get Akari in, though she kinda looks like she doesn't belong.
    Well done.

    Wonderful wallpaper!
    The vectoring is fantastic, such a big amount of details! It's crazy
    Keep it up

    I'm a bit lazy so I'm just copy/paste my comment from AP ^__^

    Wonderful job, tida-chan!

    I love the overall blue look from here.
    The hole scenery is very calm and serene. Great job on the vector.
    Everything is smooth and clean. I don't really like the girl who looks out of the window but hey, without her you couldn't had submitted it.
    I have to say that you really have a hand for making such walls. It works perfect for Aria and it is a nice add to my favs. Hope to see more soon ^__^

    Wow, I'm so ashamed that I only got to see this wall 8 weeks after you submitted it. :( I think it's now my favorite. :D I'm a big fan of lots of colors. I love how sharp and clean it is. But, then again, it's a vector, so what else is to be expected? :) At least, after all my blabbing, I can say I love it!

  11. Anjhurin Sep 21, 2008

    Well, the vectoring is really good, i love the buildings reflection in the water, and the perspective is great, it gives a huge open space that seems to suck the gulls towards the sky !
    I'm not too sure about the black buildings in the distance, i think they break the perspective and color flow. Oh, and i think the character isn't necessary either, since its vectoring and coloring are completely different from the rest of the wall (leaving it a closed window would have been good i think).

    Anyway, thumb up and fav for this great wall :D
