Artist Comment
Okay, let's bring you the actual comment then, shall we?
As you can see, the featured characters represent Zoro and Nami from One Piece. I can't quite help the fact that they're one of my favorite couples (not just from that one series).
The Idea & Background Story
Well, basically my idea is what you can - hopefully - see in the picture. Nami and Zoro have been somewhere on land,
stuck together for whatever reason. Then Nami either gets tired or hurts her foot and Zoro ruffly offers to carry her on
her back. Once she's on it, she makes a smart, teasing comment about how she always thought he hated to always have
to look out for her. To this, Zoro simply answers with a muttered "Betsuni..." ("Not really...").
Hence the tints of pink on both their cheeks and Zoro turning his eyes away while his head is still pointing towards
her.
Technique etc.
Well, of course it all began with a pencil on thick sketching paper drawing. That alone took me about 2-2 1/2 hours this
time, since I kept finding new things which I wasn't satisfied with.
I then finally scanned the page and traced the outlines in Photoshop (using the PenTool). That again took a rather long
time; the finished lineart was then edited to give a smoother and less "round" appearance.
Finally I colored the whole thing in openCanvas; again another several hours went by.
By the way, the choice of Zoro's shirt is not just due to the fact that I simply am no good at drawing men, but
also because Zoro looks best in dark clothing (pure rrrrrrrrr-factor^^).
To conclude: there are many things that I'm not quite satisfied with (such as Zoro's weird-looking head.... I just couldn't do it any better... I'm surprised I could make him look like a guy at all - considering I've only drawn about 10 to a dozen men in my life, compared to several hundreds of women...).
I hope you enjoy it anyway! And thanks to all the reviewers!, you made my day;)
Last but not least: this piccie is dedicated to one of my best friends, Christina who's probably as big a ZoroxNami fan (or Zoro individually, let's not be picky;)) as I am!
