Raison D'etre
Springing from the French, the title of this work translated into English defines as 'Reason or justification for existing.' I feel this title is most strongly suited to this particular piece and am extremely pleased to be the first member as yet to incorporate an artwork consistent of Matsuri Akino's vibrant Petshop of Horrors illustrations.
I had the pleasure some many years ago of collecting Akino's English version of the Petshop of Horrors manga series and have even gone as far as to purchase a copy of the four episode OVA that was released on DVD through Urban Vision to my supreme satisfaction. The series in it's self is something one can sit back from and say: 'Wow, that was damned cool!'
In early 2007, Akino finally released the majority of her imaginative and inspiring art works in her first ever Petshop of Horrors art book. I was fortunate enough to purchase this title and have only lately been inspired by certain of her paintings and illustrations as a primary medium for constructing an eye-catching base work.

The results, in this here piece, are something I'm extremely pleased with. Akino's weird and wonderful depiction of the infamous Count D (or of his likeness at very least) slowly blossoms forth as a butterfly amid a selection of blooms. The piece carries with it eerie proportions that are complimented by (but not independently) predominant shades of blue. This piece works with light, texture, colour and frequency. Akino began with a simple idea - what we have done is stepped it forth unto the next level incorporating her blossoming butterfly into a myriad of contrasting, yet supportive floral array.

Enjoy! :)

Wow! Another great wallpaper of yours... :)
It looks superb. The background and the colors you've chosen perfectly match with the drawing you've used.
I have never read nor seen Petshop of Horrors, but after seeing this, I must say I got pretty interested (it's very inspiring).
Wonderful job! + fav.
And keep up with the good work!
Bye... :)

I'm a big fan of Petshop of Horrors but unfortunately I don't own the artbook. I've been looking for a good wallpaper with this series but never found any that I like. I'm really happy I found this one! I really like it. You did a very good job to "re-use" the colours of the artwork in the supporting flowers. The balance is very good.

WOW! I'm a big fans of Petshop of Horrors and love your work a lot, awesome.
