Oh, so creative a name, eh?

Picture for a contest on gaiaonline. I figured t'would be appropriate to create a picture with a mermaid in it by using watercolor. Turned out alright, I suppose. Still not satisfied with the background, but eh. I've yet to do a background I was pleased with.

Anywho, this character is NOT mine, but I wasn't sure where to put it. This character belongs to Allychan_90 from Gaia.

Full-view is much better than the preview.

EDIT:
Might not be able to tell from the preview, but I straightened out the picture and rescanned it. It looks much better now. :D

Lovely submission windyroller! It's rare to see watercolor works in the gallery. I like all of the different colors that you used to create her "scales". Keep up the great work! I would love to see more works like this! :D

Nice effect on the hair ;)

i love the watercolours! and the texture is just great :) awsome job
keep it up!

As firefly said, I also like the illusion of scales you've created with the varying colors. Too bad the paper seems to have become wrinkled because of the watercolor, if I'm interpreting those repeated vertical lines around the paper correctly. I also like the permeable contours--the way you haven't painted exactly within the lines--which I think works nicely with the idea of water and the fluid element of the piece. Good job-

I <3 watercolooooooor! nicely done

Very likeable to me. :D Not only is the water paint coloring is great, but the lines are also amazing. The lines almost have that fast movment feel to it and you also seem to have a great control over the thin and thickness of the lines. Love the way her hair flows and the Koi fishes are actually look very cute. :) For me, it's always a treat to see some sort of traditional art tools being use to make modern style works. ;) Great work and wish you luck with that contest windyroller. :)

*stares* wow....

you've got awesome skills with watercolours, I'm jealous >.< I love how you did her hair ^^ nice outlines (did you use a pen for that or is that also watercolour?)

I love the perspective, and her smile :) and nice koi too!

YOU ARE AMAZING GREAT JOB!

I didn't know mermaids had any cloth on *disappointed*... ahah, only joking, this is a pretty amazing work :)
You have great skills in the colouring, and your character is well done as well, but there might be a little problem in the proportion of her arm (well actually not really the proportions, but more the articulations ie wrist / elbow which don't really appear, making the arm look like a straight cylinder... more or less ^_^').
Anyway, nice flowing movement... thumbs up :D

Jii-chan's really disappointed at the fact that your mermaid has a cloth on. XD *stares on the comment above*

But it's really surprising to see that even water colour can turn a picture into a magical thing! I suck at water colour so it'll prolly take me 100 years to get this effect.

I really love it. It's really too lovely to overlook this one. Your drawings are okay, but how you applied your water colour is really something that must be taken serious notice. ^^

Great work.

That's really really beautiful! I love the colors a lot! I like the drawing too, but the watercolors are even cooler. The movement flows very well. I like!

Very awesome work with watercolors! I wish I can do the same with it, but alas, the paintbrush drives me to the brink of my insanity. I love the scale affect and her expression. The touches with the fish are beautifully done. =] Great job! I hope to see more works in the near future! +fav
