This is the wallpaper that made me wish for a tablet. The original was a black and white manga scan that was pretty low quality.
I painted most of Kenshin's head, changed my mind and vectored it all, then changed my mind and smudged and blurred the heck out of him. I didn't want the smooth shininess of a vectored image to go with it, that's why.
The original plan for the background was an overhanging sakura branch and flowers but I GOT SO LAZY and didn't want to draw branches and flowers as my hand was dying *insert more pining for a tablet here* so I just put different stocks and textures behind him (from Resurgere ), messed with them, filtered them, and blended them to get the sky you see.
After that, I added the mist/haze effect around Kenshin's torso to emphasize the presence of a breeze (which was blowing his hair) and finally added the birds.
This whole thing is about 60 layers deep and took about two weeks (of staring at my original painting of Kenshin's HAIR) before finally adding/CGing everything else in one day.
The scene is from the Kyoto arc in the manga, as Kenshin first starts on the Toukai way.
