First things first: this wallpaper was done in a hurry, so you can see some obvious mistakes in extraction. Also, the original image I worked with was pretty low quality, so I had to use lots of filters and tricks to make it look relatively decent. If it's not good enough for MT, gomennasai... -_-'
Now, for the story. Unlike other of my wallpapers, this particular piece actually has a story to tell. At first I wanted to do something goth-looking; then I changed my mind and did this instead. The fractals in the background signify a chaotic world, whereas the vivid colors overlaying the background symbolize the way a child perceives this world. In contrast to that, the girl in the image has white hair [a symbol of age and wisdom in 'classic' symbolism] and a dress that's hardly appropriate for her age. Her sad expression pretty much sums up the mood I tried to transmit - bleak and depressive despite the vivid colors.
Technical details ~ background consists of several fractals rendered in Apophysis 2.05, adjusted in Photoshop CS2, plus a few other touch-ups. Scan from hardware-anime.tk.
