100% painted in Photoshop based on 2 screenshots below which were
traced and used as references:

This is the scene of the classic Ninja Scroll duel between Kibagami Jubei (in brown) and a blind samurai Mujuro Utsutsu (in white). I thought Utsutsu is very admirable even though he's one of the bad guys.

Well, this is my entry for MT's Paint-o-rama 1st contest with the theme of ancient
Japan with vegetation component. The era of choice is Sengoku/Tokugawa as explained here http://www2.hawaii.edu/~dfukushi/Jubei.html

I never thought I would ever finish this wall since nailing the concept 4-6 weeks ago, but in the midst of procrastinating from organising my wedding and being unemployed, this wall is indeed a nice surprise after a solid day of work (~8-10hrs).

Overall I'm thrilled with the way it turned out given such a short working time from scratch to finish, but in other hand it's kinda nothing special since it's pretty much just combining and recreating the screenshots. :hmpf:

Hope you like it!

PS. how asian is this wall? LOL! *releases the white doves* XD
Just kidding, no offense :)

Yoshiaki Kawajiri-san is my favourite anime director ever and of course my fav studio is Madhouse. actually, i think Utsutsu -san was the strongest of the Eight Devils of Kimon. and the dude was blind..

love the wall, although i wish you zeroed in on the samurais.

D: Why are you so awesome?
Lol, the lighting, the painting, everything is really well done! It's blurred just right and is super clean. Well done!

neat painting! I like those bamboos, and the atmosphere (esp the lighting effects). Though I think those two guys could use more depth of shading, esp the hair on Kibagami Jubei, looks a bit flat there.

Actually I wanna see how you did those leaves and the sunlight :)

  9. eternallegend Dec 21, 2006

Amazing! Love the sense composition and depth achieved by the blurry bamboo background drop in this. Lighting is also a nice touch.

Absolutely gorgeous work of art you have here. The softness goes really well with the scan that you've picked, and the colors are just great. Good luck with the contest!

I've already seen your wall on another website and I commented and favored it but I still want to comment it because I really liked it. I find the lights are really beautiful and peaceful, it's a great work and I've already downloaded it ! You've done a quite amazing work because of the originals scans which are of a bad quality ! Even if I've already seen it before, I'm still stunned. Thanks for sharing !

  19. gabysango2011 Dec 25, 2006

  21. bella-ella Dec 26, 2006

Ooh, a forest battle, very nice theme. The colours also compliment the feel of the wallie. Good job. And you mention this isn't a scan... congrats on a fantastic wp!
