Very soft use of color, it's awesome. The idea is really neat and the effects make it look almost dreamy. Great job!
Artist Comment
Inspired by a line in the lyrics of "Vincent (Stary Stary Night)" by Josh Groban:
"The silver thorn of bloody rose lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow."
I think I first heard that song some 3 or 4 years ago, and the image that comes from that line is hauntingly beautiful it is now as it was then when I first heard it. I've been trying to somehow visualize that image for a while, using lots of different mediums (including a sculpture, and photomanip that didn't go anywhere). I just got ArtRage (the most awesome graphics painting program I've ever seen!), and started painting snow (since it was snowing outside), and thought to try and visualize this image again. Why do I like this image so much? Because I love the vivid colour contrast of the blood red rose and white snow.
Anyway, technical details:
- Used this image as a
reference for the rose.
- Painted from scratch on one layer using the marker tool in ArtRage (I love the watercolour effect you get from it).
I'd like to use more layers, but the free version of ArtRage that I have doesn't support layers (heh I think I'm getting
dependent on layers now...)
- I love how the leaf and stem turned out for some reason. and the snow.
- The petals are okay, better than I thought I could do, but could be better.
- The rose... yeah not the best thing ever.. and it hardly looks 'crushed and broken', but ah well...

to be just a flower is pretty damn heavy....
anyway I like the concept and I see it clear in this piece, the red is so stunning that is like if the rose was fill with blood and the petals were drops of it, but you know what a textless wall would make this really superb in a way you only get to focus on the rose and not that weird font you put....
the thumb doesn't make any justice to the whole work so the wait is worth it, for sure. -
