I re-extracted the scan again and changed the leaves to blue-gray-ish, hope that
helps a bit...
But anyways, is this good enough now?

I used the scan from Minitokyo...
I bought and watched this anime before back in China, so I was really surprised
after I opened the directory as I saw the characters from that anime. (I did not
recognize it immediately because the name is in English and not Chinese).
However, I could not remember what she's called or seeing her anywhere in any of
the episodes... 
(I have a really bad memory at things) so just plainly named her Maria from the
series name.
This is the second wallpaper I've made, the background was originally for my
friend's sketch, but I found it taking too much time trying to erase all the
pencil smears on it using my computer by Paint, that's when I decided to use a
scan instead. Does anyone know how to get rid of pencil smears the easier way? I
tried magic eraser in PSP and it didn't work. Now I have to make a new one for
her or she'll hunt me down and kill me... 
One last, and very important thing, please, please, PLEEZZZZ leave your comments
and suggestions! I've been trying to make improvements on my skills because
compared to other really good works, mine definitely needs some changes. I just
don't know where and particularly which area. So please, and criticisms, as long
as they are specific in where is not good enough, are always welcomed!

Well...this is a good wallpaper (or I think so, anyway.) The bg...seems to simple, though. I like your idea, with the staircase and the lighter/ darker side of it. But...I would like to have seen more colors. Nothing drastic; pale blue, pale purple, etc. Just some softer colors to draw in more attention. Because the black, grey, and white don't draw that much attention. Also...it wouldn't hurt to add a light 'sparkel' around the staircase, and extending outwards. It would help fill in from the sides of it, and add something to the black side of the wallpaper.
Now, the scan...it's a very good scan. I like it alot...fits well with your idea. The only thing about it, is the extraction is a little messy. There are un-even sections all over the palce, and even some white sections with-in her hair. So the edging needs to be cleaned up some.
I hope I wasn't to harsh.

Thanks inuyashalove04! Yeah I didn't pay much attention to the extraction...
I would try to fix that part and re-upload it again, probably sometime in the distant future.
And I would also try to see if I can add more color in there, like you suggested...

The red looks nice with the gray/bllue. It's quite nice looking.
I think it'd be better if there was less gray and more blue though. Maybe tint it a light grayish blue color?
Some of the lines on the skirt look jagged... but I don't really know how to fix it myself so...
But
just to watch out for stuff like that.
Otherwise the overall composition is very pleasing. ^_^
the background looks nice, but you should have used more colors, you should improve your extraction and try to clean the scan... take a look at imanimetions.net

really like it. As for me, I think the gray-red colours make something unusual
atmosphere. If you used blue instead of grey, well in my opinion, it would be
something that we all meet often. And the blue colour'd give a feeling of cold
or watery things but this grey gives something misterious and dusty. So I think
it tourned out the best way in the colours' point of view.

hmm I see another have wrote many words and opinion.. I can say that this wallie looks nice.. but the extraction of this scan is a little bit... crashed.. details shows pixels. Colors are nice too
