This is my entry for simple-ism's Inspiration project. <3
Inspiration: Traditional art, ink on wallscrolls and ukiyo-e. And also drammatic cropping of a female character like in this manga cover. I've always wanted to try a wallpaper like that. The simplest composition possible, and only a few colours.

technical info:
program: Illustrator from A to Z
source: small and lowqual image of an old print + chinese zen ink for the bamboo leaves
fun: prety much all
not: nothing :D
layers: not that it matters much when you vector..

more res and sepia version here

wow, a classic japanese heian-period pic. those space around gives more freedom to the viewers' imagination. kinda reminds me of the murasaki shikibu, the first japanese novelist. perhaps you can add some japanese calligraphy which fills 3/4 of the space on the right to 'allow' her (that japanese lady) to express emotions. that way too enable viewers to understand her actions posed here.

overall, fantastic classic wallie. and it's going to my fav :D

Very cool. I love your lines, so neat and non-jagged =D I prefer the softer feeling, but the one with all the color is really cool as well. I was just wondering about the thin white line at the bottom of the colorful one, was that intentional? And the link doesn't work for me =(

Think the Sepia version is nicer. Feels more print-ish? Definitely a fall wallpaper as well. Kya, candy-chan! So nice! Especially the leaves and its shadows as I've mentioned a little while ago ^_~

manga cover link doesnt work- or so i was informed in French.

lovely vectoring lady candy-chan.
so beautiful- i can forgive the empty space on the right.

+ favs

It's so clean and beautiful, I luff it. <3 Icon space FTW.

I'm a sucker for the traditional; the incongruent alignment of lines are hard to come by these days. Though I'm not too keen on the change and use of brighter colours; it may have lost its 'ancient' feel.

The vector is great, but you could've done more.
Negative space may be good for a lot of people, but it isn't for me. =/

I think sakura blossoms would've been better than the bamboo as it would match the occasion for the yukata more.

I think it'd be wayyy cooler if you tried to mimic this with brush strokes instead of just solid lines too. :3

is something that you can enjoy staring and not feel bored of do it for long time.
well done!

wow, amazing vector XD the shading and the overall vector is well executed :D i like the bamboo as it helps add character to your wall and gives it a nice touch :) the colour scheme matches well and overall wonderful vector ^^

Wow, it's so pretty! I like the color version better than the sepia, since it's such a brown picture, those splashes of color really stand out.

Ah, I'm such a sucker for simplicity. X-P

It looks so great! So simplistic and the scan looks so classic and traditional. I like the softer version better but the one posted looks nice because it has more color. :)

Gorgeous! The colors are so delicate, soothing for the eye and vectored beautifuly! Great work candy-chan :)

Very sober, very pleasant to see.

Really captures the beauty and subtle elegance of a Japanese print. Simply lovely.

The wall is just awesome! It's very elegant and the colors are nice.
Well done

Beautiful as always, candy-chan!
I like the thick and thin lines, they add emotion very well, with a nice contrast like that. Lovely colors too, soft and pleasant, and very calming. :)

simple and beautiful!
