My W.A.R. round 2 entry! =D

Description given to judges:

Quote: Well...I'm hoping the Chinese influence is obvious (Well, if you didn't know before, I'm Chinese). o_o I'm a texture whore, so I put textures on this one. >=D The birds represent feathers, as I'm a badminton player. The poem represents media and entertainment, and the guy represents my gender.

For clarification, I meant poetry is a form of entertainment and media, where-as the content of the poetry is more personally, which I didn't feel the need of pointing out. If you don't know what it's about, then it doesn't really matter. :D You'll just know something extra about me if you do. :) (No, I'm not emo D:)

So..the technicals. I vectored the original artwork of Shu Fen, and edited it a bit. Googled stock photos of paintings... XD Added textures and pattern, the moon, clouds and did some major blending.

As for the poem, I originally had part of the lyrics for David Tao's remixed "Moon Over My Heart" since he's 1337, but then it didn't sound/look very poetic, so I changed it to an actual poem I just recently learned. :x

Well anyways, go check out W.A.R. if you haven't already because the other artworks are awesome. Congrats to everyone that participated. :D

Something different from the usual scenic anime wallpaper. Take some time to notice the soft textures and soothing sepia colours. The Chinese poem makes a nice addition to the interesting yet simple composition of this great piece by Meth-anE. Don't miss it!

This wallpaper is absolutely amazing! It definitely has a Chinese feeling (being Chinese myself, unfortunately I don't understand the poem but I do recognise a few characters). The wallpaper has an old (the background, colour and texture) and a new feeling (Chen Shu Fen's art) which just blend in together so well. Absolutely fabulous! There's no doubt this'll go to my favourites! :D

Definetely rminds one of an chinese ink drawing. I like the overall look but I think it would have been nicer to keep it monochrome or colorfull, instead of mixing a colored scan and a monochrome background. Don't get me wrong it's still very pretty ^_^'

  3. Aurore Sep 10, 2006

Wow amazing! Definitely one of ma favorite wallpaper! I put it immediately on my desktop! I cannot understand chinese but I can read japanese, it's talking about the flowers and water of spring and the long road until the moon or smth like this right?

One of the best wallscroll type of walls I've seen in a long while. Great job on the blending and composition job~

  8. viekazama Sep 12, 2006

    Darn man!
    This awesome artwork
you did a very nice wallie XD

  9. AWOL Sep 12, 2006

It does exhibit much of the old-style Chinese paintings; the caligraphy, moon , bonsai and clouds on the bottom; but maybe you should add a moutain? XD That's quite prevalient in many Chinese traditional artworks. A picture indeed speaks a thousand words, and you passing comment to the judges is just plain hilarious, in a good way, I think.(though my grandpa may say otherwise)

Maybe to finish off you could've added the red seal with your name on it?

Wow.. This is definitely my 1st time seeing a wallie with chinese influence..
Either way.. It's still a nice piece.. :)
It gives a feeling such as an old piece of chinese art.. hehe
    Nicely done..

  13. moonfire Sep 12, 2006

I love the chinese characters pattern! That really adds to the oriental feeling..
The dark and thin strokes of the lines are beautiful. Really calligraphy like, except that there's no red color. ;) It's like ink on parchment paper.. except the fact that it's digital. :)

    Beautiful work, Meth-anE! :D

Hands down, this was my favorite wallpaper out of all of those submitted to the W.A.R. What you managed to do so skillfully in this wallpaper (and where others fail so often), is to integrate every element using a coherent style so that everything simply clicks.

    Superb job.

Edit: Thanks for the clarification regarding your selection of poetry; that was something I had been extremely curious about.

  15. Kuyashisa Sep 12, 2006

Really interseting, the old chinese effect makes me remeber the goodies in asian museums ^^, but with colors, and rhis one is really beautifull

  16. Spikes4real Sep 14, 2006

  20. Nirkatze Sep 15, 2006

I really like the whole composition. It reminds me of the older ink paintings with the twisted trees and black outlines. I'd like to have this as a poster in addition to a wall.

  21. N9e1 Sep 15, 2006
