I have decided I want to do for Mushishi what I did for Kino no Tabi: make so many walls that people can't help but get their interest piqued and create new fans, who in turn will make more wallpapers to introduce more fans. This is just the beginning.
I saw some photographs from the upcoming live-action Mushishi movie, and while Ginko looks like a total retarted bishounen (which he most definately is not based on manga and anime art) the character artwork for Nui looked beautifully elegant. So I decided to use a photograph as a basis for a wallpaper.

It's quite a different challenge to convert a photograph into an anime-styled image, I tell you. The details are all different.
I have been of late experimenting with creating and utilizing art brushes in Illustrator and used this wallpaper to further explore this technique to give the image a Japanese calligraphic scroll style for the outlines. Nui was first colored in Illustrator and then smudge-painted in Photoshop to maintain the painted effect. (Shinn, see, I eventually got to the vector+paint in one wall!)
The smoke was shamelessly traced out of an xxxholic image, because the twisty curls of smoke fit so well, and both Yuuko and Nui seem to like smoking long pipes.
Textured to give it that "painted on a wall" aged feeling.
ZOMG MORE RESOLUTIONS!

the process is interesting, how you started off with a photograph and then vectored it so beautifully, I also love the textures you used, they're stunning

    great job

You really have a neck for bizarre art XD... i must say to create this out of a photograph is really a tedious job... and you really handled it really good :)

( lol i am really fond of saying "really" today XD)

holy wow. it's awesome but like the person before me have said it must've been a pain to make. XD hahaha. he's smoking. lung cancer! jk. it gives a lot of mysticism to the piece and it makes it all the more worth it. =)

It looks something old fashoined piece of art, I like it very much, the colours and the lines on it. ;) I think you made a great wallpeper. :)

Excellent work! Everything fits just perfectly, especially the colours and the drawing of the person. Wonderful wallpaper!

This is just gorgeous, thank you so much. Especially since it's Mushishi; there's hardly any wallpapers and it's an incredible series.

You go girl! I so agree with you that Mushishi deserves recognition, and your walls should do just that.

It's so hard to find source material if you have no real program running talent. I applaud your efforts! The woman that you created does not look as though you've traced her from a picture, kudos on capturing the calligraphy style. I also like how you were able to incorporate the woman into the background with the smoke both infront and behind her. That's a nice effect.

Might I pose a challenge? Even though I love your stylised one-main-color walls, how about a Mushishi wallpaper with Ginko, in a forest/bamboo forest/foliage, surrounded by mushi. I'm thinking particularly of the episode of the family who cannot escape the bamboo forest no matter what direction they travel in and always come back to the same rock/center spot. I'd love to see something that looks as though it came straight from the anime. :) Thank you for all the Mushishi walls! I'm loving it!

How wonderful! I never tire of your work. I can't imagine how difficult it was to work from the photo. I have to agree with Elves (above) and I second her/his challenge. I would just like to see what you come up with. I just love your stuff :)

You're really talented! Making a human look like anime can be really difficult. This sure is a favv >_<

Yes! Ganbatte, Tama-Neko! Mushishi really deserves more love >_< (I try introducing to many friends but one of them think it's boring :( but nevertheless, I still love Mushishi^^)
I think it's really amazing that you can convert a photograph into an anime-styled image! -in awed- Truly a work of an genius if I must say :) The effects and colours are really soothing. The wavy smokes are very nicely done up too. Awesome work! -beams-

very cool wall, every thing is excellent ..the only thing that bothers me is the kanjis which judging from your title you wanted to write peace " hei-wa " but onb the wall it says " wa-hei " as u read from top ... but seriously who cares (?) :) its still great wall

I like this kind of wall.and the resolution is large enough!

Very, very cool wallpaper. I love the texture and color, but those smoke trails are friggin' awesome. The character also looks really good. you did an excellent job with the conversion. Despite the lack of surroundings in the wallpaper, I've got to say, she must be inside. Were she outdoors, I'd hate to think how much smoking it would take to generate that level of smoke trail before it disipated. :)

    Beautiful wallpaper.

Yay, Nui. The colors are kind of blinding, but texture and overall vectoring is great, as expected from you.
