More Mushishi fun. I liked this scan ever
since I saw it, because of the brushed style and the really simple, heartwarming
feeling that the father-son relationship gives off. The background is based off
of Hasui Kawase (1883-1957)'s woodblock print, "Fuji from Matsubaara at
Miho" because it had the fishing boats and the ocean. I transformed it
from ukiyo-e to a much simpler one-color calligraphic brush style to match with
the characters. The "scribble and tweak" effect of Illustrator proved
to be very useful in this regard. Photoshop was used to add the texture, scanned
from some handmade paper. I kept it one color, although I may consider coloring
it later, but I like the effect it has right now. The Japanese text
"Oyako" means "Parent and Child" or in this case,
"Father and Son."

yay! first comment! hahaha. such a dork-like myspace thing to do. anywho, love the wallpaper. it is very serene and it leans on the more traditional side of japanese culture while still retaining a japanese look. keep up the good work. =)
Seriously Tama. i love you, and i'm digging your Mushishi-walling craze here. Another stylish vector from you <3 you captured the style perfectly.
told you mushishi was great :3
not getting enough attention this wallpaper... *sighs*
lovely wallpaper tama. i like how you kept it monotonous and old-ish paper-like. It really suits the style of the wall. Looks great. Nice vectoring too.
Omg... Must absolutely fav.
I spent a lot of time on Ukio-e books and paintings... and you made me remember those times with this awesome piece of art. I agree with eunasahng, this wall deserves more than 12 favs!
You did a great job on Fujisan... oh, my. This Is Japan!
Great job Tama-Neko! More like this please
A great wallpaper, a lot like an old, monochromatic painting on a papyrus. Nice choice of the scan and setting - fits the style of the wallaper very much.
wow a very lovley scan. the setting ad color is perfect
such a sweet wallie^^ love it!
Wow...what an awesome and cool wall! I've never seen anything like this before. It's so original and bg is so cool, like a old story. XO I love the golden and white colors! It's so simple, but so creative! ^^ Keep it up and thanks for sharing, tama-neko!
Yes, it is!
HOORAY
Anyway, the wallie is smply breathtaking! It really seems as if the whole
thing is a woodblock print. You have done a really marvelous job making this
wallie -beams- Great job!
Haha
Beautiful overall appearance, going with that classic papyrus feel again. You pull it off very well. I love the scenery, especially rendered in this style...it just looks so cool. The father and son add the "aww" factor, but I'm more impressed that they're going fishing. I know, it's a "common" thing, but I've got such great memories of fishing with my own father...
Dangit...now I have to go fund this "Mushishi" thing and see it for myself. You've made such incredible wallpapers featuring it, it's got to be awesome.
looks almost like an ukiyo-e style image.
