A wallpaper from Ged no Senki/Tales from Earthsea, the latest Ghibli film. I found the scan of the dragon and wanted to wall it, because dragons are one of my favorite mythical creatures (blending my fascination with flying with my fascination with snakes, I think.) At first this was a really boring Mage Summons Magic In Field of Grass At Nighttime With Dragon and was utterly craptacular. Remembering that a recent issue of Computer Arts Showcase magazine had a tutorial on engraving, I decided to try and use that technique to create the feeling of old-style maps, where "DRAGONS BE HERE" inhabit murky mountaintops. It must have taken me 20 tries to get the sceneric into a decent looking engraving. While searching for some pretty scrollwork to place the text in I found a great stock of an actual scroll from Stock Exchange that I leveraged into the wallpaper as well, so it really does feel like a 1500s map. (I did manage to find some lovely scrollwork stock, by the way. It was on a map of Wisconsin. Go fig.)

I've been eagerly waiting for this Ursula K. Le Guin anime adaptation. I'm sure it wil be as great or maybe greater than the rest of Ghibli's works. And for this wallpaper I just can say one thing: your imagination is limitless indeed, Tama. :D I want your brain! XD rofl....
    Great job.

That looks like a very realistic old scroll. Nice work getting the browns in the scroll to look authentic. Maybe a touch more wear and tear could be added to make it look really old. :) I'd like to suggest a darker wood grain for the background table(?) the scroll is lying on. That way there would be more of a distinction between the scroll and the wood. I didn't even realize there was wood in the wallpaper until I looked at the full version.
Great job encorporating an anime into an ancient reality of earth. I like the wall, kudos on getting a new technique down as well.
