That is a really nice coloring job of the manga scan. Nice flowing colors in the robe. A suggestion if you would like to lighten things up a bit: You could always add some rays of light that are brighter than the overall glow/light from the staff and have one focus on his face. I don't think I've seen an anime yet that has just one solid brightness of a weapon/staff glow. :) It'd vary the wall a little more, too. It's also got a lot of purple...urm, that would be a personal preference, but I'd like to see a little more differentiation between the shadows and the purple/darkness. Maybe add some browns and darker shades of other complimentary colors. You're right that the pose is very nice and serene, and does make great walling material. I really like the floor cracking, even though it is in the dark ;) , but that looks cool. Good work overall.
Artist Comment
I was re-reading my Rayearth manga and this image of Guru Clef really struck me. His supplicant posture with the ribbons
of his staff swirling around him really spoke volumes about his despair without ever needing a clear view of his face.
So, I decided to wall it. (Besides, there's not a lot of walls featuring just Clef.) This was really an exercise in
coloring a manga scan, something I haven't done in years, and I really had fun experimenting with the smudge tool
to get the soft folds in the cloth to stand out. The background is based on the original scan, showing the destruction
of Cephiro with rocks flying out. This scene in the manga has Clef asking himself, "Is this world (Cephiro) truely
beautiful?" and even though his world is crumbling apart around him, he cannot find it in his heart to pray for
Cephiro's one hope of salvation, for the burden of that salvation is too high a price to pay. To keep that tone I
kept the wall very dark and used some textures to add a hint of grunge. Unfortunately the darkness also obscures the
work I did on breaking up the floor. Oh well.
Dedicated to Flyindreams and Crapmonster, because I really, really had tons of fun last Wednesday.

Very nice job on colouring the manga scan tama. It's flawless - I thought it was a scan. Wonderful job with smudging as well.
I quite like the simple concept of the wall. It's quite stricking at first sight.
The use of purple colour is also well chosen - I think it makes it more magical ^^

I still want to beat myself over the head whenever I remember actually bring a digital camera but completely forgetting to take pictures. *gives crap another couple of kicks for remembering but not saying anything* And yes, lovely wall as always. I just love the purple tones and the dramatic lighting... beautiful :D

You did an excellent job vectoring and colouring the picture. I love how it feels like Clef is surrounded by darkness and the light is struggling to keep the darkness away. The actual wallpaper looks much more gorgeous and stood out a lot more than the thumbnail did. Excellenting job on the lighting of Clef's staff. Love this wallpaper. YOu did an excellent job on it! Hope to see more work from you!

Its really great to see a Clef inspired wallpaper. Very lovely. The coloring of the scan is suburbed, it looks like an originaly colored scan. The focal point of the light is a nice touch though I think the outer edges bleed too quickly into darkness, not that Im complaining because it still looks great!
