This'll be my first wallpaper ever 
I honestly don't think I could have chosen a more difficult scan to learn
with though. It took me like two days, but most of that was learning time. It
was hell to extract her, and the hair cutoff in 2 places, so I had to work
around that. I didn't realize there was a "Patch" tool until I had
messed up her leg trying to remove the big title text running across it. I have
a little Photoshop experience, but after this, I feel exposed to a whole new
world of effects and I really realize how powerful the program can be. The
background was a closeup of some fire that I smudged and radial blurred, among
other things. I tried out lots of stuff, and there are about 10 versions using
different effects. Getting her hair to blend with the background was a pain, but
hey, everything was a pain, until I realized "they have a tool for that
?!". I learned a lot by trial and error, made some new
discoveries, restarted 3 times, I got "baptised by fire"...
