hello! i was eating dried mangos a while ago - and it gave me all the boost i need to finish this doujin in several hours straight.. dried mangos -oishi! >_<

my thanks to EternalBlue-san for the scan. It took a while for me to realize that it was indeed a very good reference! if not poignant... ^_^'

i was about to photo manip the colors again in photo shop like in l'embrassade, but i guess i want this to be unique and simple and raw.. XO oh and the main reason why i never color everything is due to my laziness... cheers to all lazy people.. nanchatte! XP

..i'd like to think that there is an underlying meaning behind the doujin and the title given to it.. (not ecchi or anything of the sort though.. OX) but in any case, i hope you like it...!

levels auto-adjusted in PS..!

Kampai! XD

ps. if the characters look abit verticalized/elongated... well, flat screen monitors tend to stretch the picture especially at the center... i saw the pics in my sister's widescreen laptop and it wasn't so.. >_>

I dont know much about where it came from, but i like it and the way you balanced the colors with the grayscale pieces.

  2. julian1 Feb 27, 2006

chi-san... you didn't really finish it all, chi-san! i still see black and white characters... well if tht's because you don't have all the colors, then never mind...

you did the grass beautifully! i can see it as if it's flowing in the wind. and the character's shadows... it's so real.

one weakness though. you could give the cherry blossom tree a bit more detail, so it would look better that way.

i like your raw sketches... the colors ruin your works I think, maybe that's just me... but if you dont finish coloring, then the images seem incomplete... mind you, that could be a class of its own, but i liked your original b/w sketches with shades of gray...

ohh by the way, what is your technique for starting out a work? how do you start and how do you finish?

I don't think this is from Nana. Naru Nanao is the artist that drew it. http://browse.minitokyo.net/s/527/naru-nanao/
This is very pretty piece. You're doing a nice job of incorporating colors with b/w. The girl on left does look a lil stretch since the back of her head isn't out far enough. Other than that, this is really well done and I love the look. Good stuff~

    Wonderful as always!
I wouldn't have expected anything less then gorgeous from you and you didn't dissapoint ( and I do belive you never will :) )

The subtle transition from shadowing with pencil to color isn't easy, ne? My skill with the color pencil ain't bad either, but I just don't do it because manga is all done in black and white. The pluses and minuses of color pencils comes with the variety of colors... adds life and color and variety, but the balance of the amount of colors and the right shading levels can prove to be the problem. The other guys up above mentioned what needed to be mentioned.

Woo that's amazing. Thanks so much for doing this sketch ^^, I love the coloring too *faves and saves* Maybe I'll print it out and put it on my wall haha. *hugz* Arigatou ne~ Daisuki! ^_^

I really don't mind the fact that they are partically colored. I agree with Tinbad about the balance between color with grayscale. :) Though it seems that you are comfortable with drawing the characters slim. The characters look like they are proportionate and I like the texture of your shading in both coloring and grayscale. ;)

I like the entire over look of your recreation of Naru Nanao's illustration. You may have skip out on some designs (like the ones on the girls skirts) and your style in drawing them does look different from Naru Nanao but you still did a really lovely job. :) Keep it up. :D

nice drawing, the shading is well done, and it also looks good because you only colored the ribbons, their eyes and the bg.
    keep it up

fantastic as always! the shading is great!

*drool*... mmmhhmm Mangos... oops, I'm here to review not think about lunch ^_^'

hmm okay I'm looking for a picture that's not suppose to be fully colored and done by someone that is lazy... O.O *stares around* hmmm nope don't see anything like that... but there's this shojo picture here that I can review :)

*rubs his eyes* omg this picture isn't fully colored, but there was so much surrounding color that my imagination colored in the rest, yay it's the "chisai kame" style. And if lazy means you have this much dedication to put out so many works of art *raises hand* sign me up to the lazy club ^^

Two things in this picture I particulary like are the colors and the trees. This is the most color you've put in a pic so far, and I really love the way the "main" chars are the ones that aren't colored because it draws out the surroundings without taking away from the main chars, as a matter of fact it actually makes them more prominant. The second are the trees, I noticed you went with a different color, and it gave me a cherry blossom feel which I really like, can't go wrong with cherry blossoms ^^

To constructive criticism I liked how you tried experimenting with trees and grass this time round. For the grass I think you did a great job but there is room to grow here, i like the wind effects, but don't quite have the feel for it... sorry not very good at describing what i mean... partially due to the fact that the original has the background of the grass off into the distant but doesn't connect to anything but a white space.

The other area is the trees. That must have been really tough to get the shading for that especially with the colors. To me the twigs are stranged to me, just a little out of place and not realistic. Again though it's from the original, just that it brings a new area of study.

And a comment on your GB entry for me... you made gemini-san blush... so many compliments... and of course when you *pinched* my cheeks -^ ^-

you always do such an awesome job on this blend of color and black and white.
    great as always :)

  15. GokuB Mar 03, 2006

    wow very awsome!adds top favs

  16. Milkiyo Mar 03, 2006

try drawing the trees with more depth though I know the focus is on the girls...it'll give the whole look more...complete
the girls are quite beautifully drawn but they look like ghosts when they're half coloured...not that satisfying :P *gives a thumbs up for lazy ppl* better if it's not even coloured at all than half coloured...
    :) nice lighting...

Another great dojunshi pic Chisaikame! Well, looking at the widescreen monitor provided the disadvantage, but, it doesn't really seem to affect to overall image. Again, nicely shaded, and the outline is great! If you wanted to colour it, maybe you should've completed the colouring of the girls before you submitted it, but then iagain, i never colour my drawings.
Now (you must be hating me alot for this critism im always giving you), for the long haired girl, her head is higher from her shoulder, this isnt really much of a problem though. I agree with everyone commenting here, The grass and the trees are real beautiful, but the twigs to look alot the same to me. They should have some difference.
I think you really did nicely on this dojunshi, and it seems like you've now attracted alot of fans to your works, including me.
    GREAT JOB CHISAIKAME!

    I really envy you... Chisaikame...
    Sniff sniff...
    WHY indeed? oh why?
    Ssssnnnniiiiffff.......

    WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

(I am so sorry about that. In a need to elucidate myself, however, what I am trying to say is that the art you produce is of such enviable quality... you, ma'am, along with gaiJIN, articulate your thoughts with such brilliant wordless clarity, it brings lesser men to sheer reverence.)

(One of those lesser men happens to be me... a man who has a brilliant mind in a worthless body...)
