This is a new wallpaper that I like quite a bit; the character is -- whoa there -- Serene, from the game Riviera: The Promised Land. I took a really low-resolution picture of Serene from one of the official wallpapers (you have to play the "Speed" Flash game on the Japanese website to get it) and vectored it, then used a median filter on the original to get color out. I considered recoloring it myself, but it was so easy and looked so cool when I did the median that I decided against it. While making this image, I actually learned several new tricks, including how to properly vector things, how to make clipping masks, etc. The "transmutation circle" is blatantly ripped off Nat's Magic Talisman tutorial. The background is constructed out of stock photos from http://sxc.hu/ (reccomended by nat).

I like it. The background is nice, and it really promotes a feeling of "motion," which fits the character's pose very well. The vector is clean and, most importantly, pleasing to the eyes. The colors you used in the background complement the character well...overall, I just really like it. It's spiffy. :)

You know, this wall so caught my eye and I can't really give a reason. Maybe it's because of the speed that is implyed by the background. Hrm...maybe. Anyway, this is sweet! I haven't played the game (or even heard of it for that matter) and now I really want to. Oh yeah, *ahem* I should probably give you a critique, huh? ^_^'
As much as I like the text and how it blends in with the background I would suggest shrinking the name just a bit, it's a little overpowering, and maybe varying the title of the game with her name with a line or a bit more distinction, which is just a thought. You might want to consider putting a slight motion blurr on the transmutation circle, it seems to be floating when everthing else gives the impression of moving at a high rate of speed. The effects are counter balancing one another. Otherwise I really like your wall. :D The composition is great for the character against the background. And the blues, even though really close, have just enough difference that it's right on making everything blend and stand out all at the same time. Very nice vectoring as well. Great looking wallpaper, and it sounds like you learned a lot of stuff making it too! I love it when that happens and the end result creates a smile so big that it's bursting from the artist's face! Yay! Finally a wall for one of my favorite games! Serene is cool, and I like her attitude! The background's nice too. Great job.
Oh wow.. this is a great piece of work you have here. The vector is amazingly crisp and clean. The background fits the vector very nicely, you made good use of stock photos in this one as well. One suggestion would be to make the whole text group just a bit smaller, and possibly you could move it down and to the left.
Overall this is great work though!
