Artist Comment

An experimental attempt to make a simple texture wall for myself by trying to give a surrealist feel to it if you know art. I used the scan of Yoshitaka Amano's tarot card scans from what DREAM gave me a while back and I chose "The Hanged man" because it is one of my favorite cards i choose in my own tarot deck i bought. Used the original concept of the original scan, added some textures, a bit of outlining here and there but i just cant pinpoint whats is wrong with this...

Its either 3 things:
1. The fact that the scan is sketchy and doesnt work together with the bold bg.
2. The orange splatters look like theyre too distracting.
3. The bg is too bold.

But alas its for myself and I like what i do in this so whatever works man... failure or sucess, feel free to post your ideas here or PM me to improve upon this, thanks!
Hope you like it! ^__^

Personal intent:
The hangman portrays a person who can evolve or trancend beyond his understanding or skill he has in life. I myself use to change my mood 3 times each day but as i get older i tend to change it just once a day because living with different emotions can be frustrating to control. But my so called "thought bubble" has started to expand higher as i get more information everytime i look around the world and enviroment i live in. Staying true with my ideals and self will get me through this even if it kills me....
well not like that i hope! o_O

wow. Very good idea! I really like the simplicity, I can never do simple wallies T___T.
lol! you have Tarot cards? XD That's cool.
The whole wallpaper is good. Yeah and I think what you said were right. The scan is too sketchy thus you have a hard time blending it into the bg but you did really well! I love the colors in the wallie too. Keep it up! *adds to faves*

    hmm.
i would say, the outlines of the original image are sketchy, and the color of the outline isn't black. so when you give everything a bold outline, it makes the original scan itself seem low quality. also, the lins, even if they're bold should be a lil thiner in the background. gives a feel of distance and all that crap.
it might be more than that, but start there xD

i really like the concept, but i know you can do better. if you fix anything or redo it, lemme know.
the simple background is a nice idea.

Wow, this is quite different from what you usually do. But I do like it just as it is--I'm a tarot buff myself.

    ohhh- great concept oracle! :)

i think the only thing is that i agree with you on the scan/bg idea- maybe consider retouching it since amano uses such delicate lines, the harsh bold lines in the background almost clash with the scans- maybe making them more sharper by creating a vector overtop of it and crsp up the lines on the pants mostly, and some on the face- either the scans or the backgrounds [making it more delicate in the lines] to match, will make this piece much more effective than it already is :)

An interesting new way to work with Amano...I love the bold background design and the colors match well...great use of pattern texture

I agree with everyone that it's the difference between the scan outlines and the background outlines that is throwing off the wall...I would go more for simplifying the scan edges to better match the background...really want to preserve your bold take on Amano

Hmm.. I don't like the pattern really. And yeah, the lines need to be fixed or less bold, but overall its creative.. seems like you're hopping on the abstract train :o eh

    I agree with kalico :)
and if the big problem about the scan is it's sketchyness, why not just vector it ~_~
with a bit of more work it would really look great

Niiice idea :D I rather like the patterns :3 But yah like what everyone else said... in order to make the scan work with the background design you either need to redraw the scan's outlines so that they're bold, or thin out the background and add more designs. Love how this is so striking though OA xD
