The background is a photograph, a real photograph.
You can modify it using Corel 12 filters especially those artistic filters...

I love Carnelian pics too. Hmm, your wallpaper is a very interesting experiment (the bg). I don't really like (nor dislike it) it but it is nevertheless a new style for me.
